POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION:Livestock Supervisor
LOCATION:Ottumwa
SALARY CLASS:Exempt
Principle Responsibilities:
• Supervise Livestock Procurement team
• Manage live hog receiving process from unloading to filling pens & ante-mortem inspection
• Maintain proper identification, counting, sorting, & harvest set-up of swine
• Ensure employee safety
• Build healthy working relationships with employees to improve engagement & decrease turnover/absenteeism
• Uphold animal welfare standards & requirements at all times throughout the process
• Facilitate positive communication & helpful relationship with all haulers/drivers delivering swine
• Monitor & confirm that machinery, equipment & facilities are properly maintained
• Work closely with other yard supervisors & management to promote efficiency & teamwork in the department
• Oversee completion & accuracy of daily paperwork of all processes within the department
• Perform various other duties to fill in when needed or as assigned
• Ensure policy compliance with all employees
• Meet & exceed yearly KPI goals set forth by management
• Ensure policy compliance with all employees
• Responsible for reducing cost, employee retention & maintain good working relationships with the Union, USDA, & maintenance employees
• Good attendance record (Less than 3 points, for internal candidates)
Working Conditions:
• Livestock, production & maintenance settings
• Exposure to various environments, live animals, chemicals & machinery
• Exposure to all inclement environments
Education/ Experience:
• High School degree or equivalent required, or equivalent combination of education & experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field preferred
• 1-2 years proven supervisory experience in the Beef or Pork industry
