GEI Consultants is seeking multiple seasonal Ecological Restoration Field Technicians in our Green Bay, Wisconsin office to implement project work in the ecological consulting and restoration management fields. Technicians assist with biological surveys and monitoring, ecological restoration, and natural resource management in a variety of natural communities across the state. Technicians will use and maintain equipment, vehicles, and power tools, and will use technology (GPS, field tablets, computer) to document activities. This position requires an introductory level of skill and experience in restoration ecology.
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties 
  • Implement safety first mindset and apply health and safety practices to day-to-day operations.
  • Conduct herbicide application and mow/brush cut invasive species
  • Identification and knowledge of invasive plant species and treatment methods.
  • Assist with the construction and implementation of ecological restoration projects including but not limited to—native tree and shrub planting, plug planting, seeding, erosion control measures, etc.
  • Operate common restoration equipment including UTVs, chainsaws, brush saws, pesticide application equipment, and other equipment needed to achieve project goals.
  • Identification of native plants and knowledge of native plant communities.
  • Work under physically demanding conditions in variable weather and sometimes difficult terrain.
  • Use GPS and other applications to collect data and navigate project sites.
  • May be required to spend 1-4 nights per week or more out of town working at remote locations.
  • A typical workday consists of an 8-12 hour day, includes irregular hours (40 or more hours per week), and irregular starting and quitting times, in accordance with the requirements of the assigned job
Minimum Qualifications 
  • 0 – 1 years in Natural Areas Management techniques including herbicide application
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
  • May also be required to complete commercial driving requirements at the 10,000-26,000 lb. classification.
  • Be able to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License, 5.0 Aquatics & Mosquito and 6.0 Right of Way and Natural Areas, before or within 15-days of hire.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and preform repetitive, physical work in a range of weather and field conditions rough and steep terrain.
  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Drive and operation of trucks with trailers, ATVs/UTVs tractors w/ attachments, skid steers, power equipment/hand tools, and small engines/pumps.
  • Effective time management and follow-through, with the ability to simultaneously work on and lead multiple tasks/projects and meet project deadlines
Desired Qualifications
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Training
  • Wisconsin’s Individual Commercial Pesticide Applicator License - 5.0 Aquatics & Mosquito and 6.0 Right of Way and Natural Areas
  • 1-3 years of ecological restoration related work experience and experience with herbicide application a plus.
  • Ability to identify native and non-native invasive plant species
  • GPS/ArcPro, Field Maps, Survey123 experience is a plus.
