SALARY RANGE: The anticipated salary range for this role is $170,000 to $250,000 annually. This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographical location, and internal alignment.
SUMMARY
The Business Development Director will be responsible for leading the company’s growth and will have commensurate experience for the focus. The company continues to move through a rapid business expansion, and the position requires a professional team leader, with proven success in the defense industry, who can work in a fast-paced environment. The company is seeking a well-rounded candidate that can drive continuous growth in our defense market and engage senior government leaders and partners and successfully communicate the benefits of company solutions to the larger audience. The position will report directly to the Chief Growth Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
- Contribute to business strategy development or other strategic projects supporting company growth for unmanned systems and capabilities.
- Updating customers, project pipeline, and review with management on a weekly basis
- Act as the initial project manager for newly developed customers/contracts before transitioning to define company program manager
- Maintain accurate records of customer interaction and sales funnel opportunities within company CRM system
- Orchestrate executive level relationships and interactions at key accounts
- Prepare and present Edge Autonomy products and solutions to key government leaders, partners, and larger audiences
- Work with company leadership to define customer requirements and articulate solutions to support those requirements
- Have a clear understanding of customer technical needs and work closely with engineering and marketing team to deliver on-time support
- Develop, shape, pursue, and close opportunities, process purchase orders and USG contracts
- Provide market insight and competitive analysis to proposed product and go-to-market strategies
- Travel as necessary for customer visits, tradeshows, and operational support
- Establish and nurture partnerships to fill gaps in solutions and support requirements
- Other duties may also include supporting Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) initiatives
REQURIED QUALIFICATIONS
The following are a non-exhaustive list of qualifications for the position:
- Bachelor’s degree in an area with at least 8-10 years of progressive association experience and/or managing the marketing function OR a master’s degree in Business, Marketing, MBA or related field and 5+ years of related work experience is required
- Minimum of 5 years’ technical business development experience supporting UAS requirements and proven track record of growth
- Experience engaging with FEDCIV customers, including CBP, DHS. S&T, FBI. US Secret Service, Department of State and US Coast Guard
- Previous experience in winning key US Army and International UAS contracts supporting UAS requirements
- Proven experience sculpting and writing responses to government solicitation such as RFI/Market Research, Request for Proposals (RFPs), etc.
- Experience working/teaming with other industry partners in pursuing USG opportunities
- Knowledge in commercial and defense/military UAS and Payload application
- Excellent communication skills
- Good technical understanding of imaging solutions
- Proven ability to drive and close contract negotiations
- Domestic and international travel is required and could exceed 30%.
- Valid US Passport required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in unmanned systems technology is preferred
- Previous military and/or government civilian experience supporting USA or International requirements/support
- 8 years’ experience in UAS business development

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
