Lighting Technical Supervisor
Description
The Lighting Technical Supervisor provides leadership and supervision to the technical aspects within the local and global VFX Lighting department. This is a department-facing role involved with both maintaining our current systems and spearheading the development of new technology solutions for practical applications in day to day shot work.
This role requires interaction and coordination with multiple stakeholders both within the VFX lighting department as well as to other departments within DNEG.
Key Responsibilities
- Works with the HOD to create a long term vision for the tools and workflows.
- Collaborate with workflow architects and software development teams to manage priorities, guide, support and test the development of these tools.
- Works with PipeTDs, Render Supes and the VFX Lighting Department team to maintain our existing tools and setups.
- Works with the Lighting Supervisors and leads to define and enforce standardisation in workflow, output, and development best practices within the VFX Lighting department.
- Represent the needs of the VFX Lighting department in cross-department pipeline and R&D planning conversations.
- Oversee artists work when they are assigned to department development tasks.
Must Have
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in high end Feature Film VFX production
- High level of proficiency in all technical areas of vfx lighting technology including: Camera Photography Concept, Light Qualities and Image Analysis, Physical Based Rendering, Shading Models, Compositing.
- Python scripting skills, adherence to coding standards, familiarity with houdini OTLs.
- Experience with VFX pipeline architecture and problem solving.
- A strong drive for optimization and efficiency while empowering artists.
- Good self-management and time management skills.
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Self sufficient, self motivated and forward thinking.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with VFX lighting pipeline in production shotwork.
Nice to Have
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Houdini, Solaris, Renderman.
- Experience in Clarisse
- C++
- Experience in Unreal
- Experience in Lightfield Rendering
- Experience in Feature Animation, TV or Games will also be taken into account
