Expression of Interest - Technical Supervisor
Description
We are looking for a Technical Supervisor to establish and lead the operations aspects of our Core Engineering group, based on the principles of Site Reliability Engineering. The successful applicant will build and lead a global team of engineers who work closely with product teams to ensure critical software is highly available, observable and observed, and that related infrastructure is effectively maintained.
We seek a candidate with extensive experience in technical leadership and operations, who will be tasked with developing and promoting progressive strategies for software operation and infrastructure maintenance within Core Engineering.
The Technical Supervisor will be part of the Core Engineering group, which is responsible for the creation, integration, support and operation of: hardware and software infrastructure; global IT systems; software delivery technology and workflows; development frameworks; data systems; and other key global software. It primarily serves the needs of developers, engineers and other roles within the Technology division.
As Technical Supervisor for SRE & Core Operations you will:
- Work with Core Engineering management around the world to establish and grow a pool of engineers to operate critical global software.
- Steer the approach to operations within Core Engineering, with particular focus on proprietary software.
- Work with product teams to maximise the observability and administrative capabilities of proprietary and enterprise software products.
- Supervise and mentor members of the global Core Engineering group.
- Oversee the training and development of team members to ensure they have the required skills to complete their tasks and reach a high level of autonomy.
- Work alongside the local Engineering Manager to assist in career development and performance review for members of the Core Engineering Group in India.
- Work with Core Engineering leadership and management to establish and project the cost of existence of Core Engineering products.
- Work closely with other Core Engineering leaders and Project Managers to promote operational considerations throughout software products' life cycles.
- Work with Leads and other Supervisors across the Core Engineering group to ensure, where possible, that no individual is solely accountable for any critical operational task or activity.
- Work alongside the local Engineering Manager and DNEG's global recruitment teams to attract and recruit into the Core Engineering group.
- Work closely with leaders of other domains to ensure a consistent and cohesive approach to operations across the Technology division.
- Act as the technical escalation point for India for critical issues arising within Core Engineering.
- Act alongside the local Engineering Manager as a technical escalation point for critical issues arising in other related Technology domains.
The successful applicant will be fundamental in expanding Core Engineering's operations capabilities, which continue to grow in importance as we modernise our business processes and workflows. There is scope for the responsibilities above to extend beyond the Core Engineering domain to cover a much broader area of Technology.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years' experience in operations leadership.
- BA/BEng/BSc or equivalent.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Qualities:
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Experience managing change and risk in an IT environment.
- Experience with core technologies such as databases, file systems, message brokering, etc.
- Experience with development tooling and processes (e.g. Git, Mercurial, BitBucket, GitHub, etc.).
- Practical understanding of software development and delivery processes.
- Experience with collaborative tooling such as Jira and Confluence.
- Organised, self motivated, proactive and able to work autonomously.
- Calm under pressure and capable of meeting short deadlines.
- Adaptable and responsive to change.
- Some flexibility in working hours, to enable collaboration with colleagues in other time zones.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Qualities:
- Experience in software development and architecture.
- Experience of Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps philosophies and practices.
- Experience of creative and/or digital-media industries.
