Creature Lab - Researcher
The Creature Lab at DNEG is where we incubate ideas, create prototypes and prepare the technology that will evolve into tools of the future for Creature Artists. Researchers in the Creature Lab have a passion for solving complex problems with innovative methods. They bring a diverse range of skills to the team and thrive on applying these skills to new problems.
Innovation from the Creature Lab is inspired by collaborating closely with Creature Artists. These artists rely on a suite of custom tools and software to facilitate complex creature work in the production of award-winning Visual Effects and Animation. They provide insight into real problems, and test prototypes of new ideas.
Prototypes from the Creature Lab move to the Production Technology team where they are integrated with the rest of DNEG’s Creature tools which generate, manipulate and render everything from photo-real digi-doubles, to highly stylised fantasy characters, from single hero performances to large-scale digital crowds and all of the effects required to bring them to life.
As a Researcher in the Creature Lab, you will work with senior artists and Heads of Departments to help identify opportunities and create clear problem-statements. You will ideate novel approaches to solving problems; plan projects and build proof-of-concept solutions. You will communicate your ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues, adapting your communication style accordingly. Our world-class artists will test your prototypes on shots from blockbuster movies, and your successful algorithms will directly contribute to the success of upcoming movies.
