About this Position:

The Global Training Department is essential to the continuous success of DNEG as a leader in the VFX industry. We are committed to helping our artists and technologists reach their full potential by empowering them with the tools and workflows needed to adapt to the global DNEG pipeline.

As the VFX Trainer, you will report to our Global Head of Training and Head of CG in Sydney, and have the opportunity to support expansion of DNEG VFX knowledge through training initiatives being established in our Sydney Location.

We are interested in hearing from you if you consider yourself either a 3D generalist with an area of expertise, or a specialist seeking wider exposure into other areas of VFX. This is an opportunity for the successful applicant to:

  • Dive deep into tools and workflows used at DNEG to create world-class imagery
  • Deepen their skillset across numerous VFX Disciplines

Key responsibilities in the Sydney studio:

As a VFX Trainer in Sydney, your role encompasses:

  • Delivery of inductions, covering the DNEG pipeline, tools & technical environment
  • Working with SME’s in each discipline to deliver core training programs
  • Supporting SME’s to deliver specialist training when required
  • Supporting crew with internal knowledge-share presentations
  • Delivery of DNEG’s training programs designed to fast track artists and production staff into current productions. 
  • Contributing to maintenance and development of training materials & documentation staged on the DNEG studio-wide Intranet
  • Authoring, staging, and vetting content on the DNEG’s Learning Management System (LMS) 
  • Supporting departments in identifying and evaluating training needs
  • Working globally with the training team to address training needs

Required Skills:

  • Degree or diploma 3D Animation, VFX, Computer Graphics, Cinema/TV, Entertainment Technologies
  • At least 3 years experience educating/training/mentoring in the Animation/VFX/Entertainment industry
  • Experience working with one or more key DCC packages such as Houdini, Maya, Nuke, and RenderMan in a show environment
  • Experience developing training curricula for artists and support staff – user guides, video tutorials, and documentation templates
  • Team player with the ability to work closely with a global training team
  • Manage documentation and training projects while collaborating with a global team of subject matter experts and training crew
  • Report progress timely to the training stakeholders including Heads of Departments, Heads of Training, and global training crew.

Desired Skills:

  • Previous experience working with Houdini/Solaris
  • Experience working with LMS authoring/staging environments (e.g. EasyGenerator/Saba Cloud)
  • Experience developing VFX training curricula
  • Experience with procedural workflows in Houdini
  • Scripting/coding experience (python, mel, vex, etc.)
