Job Summary:

Under general supervision, The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining production equipment in optimum operating conditions at all times. By repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting all production, processing, material handling and ancillary equipment. Facilities maintenance include but is not limited to, hot water boilers, chillers, purified water systems, and wastewater systems. This position reports the status of all projects and initiatives to the leader.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Performs Preventative Maintenance on facility and plant equipment per written Preventive Maintenance tasks
  • Records findings and observations on Preventive Maintenance forms and worksheets issued by the manager
  • Performs maintenance activities on machines, such as lubrication, parts replacement as needed, and general adjustments
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks on plant equipment as recommended by manufacturer
  • Follows The Current Good Manufacturing Practices as outlined and indicated by the drug, medical device, and cosmetics Current Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Cleans and manages tools in order to prevent product contamination and equipment damage
  • Develops rapport with plant operators to gather information regarding existing and developing equipment problems and failures that result in inefficiencies and potential shut-down
  • Suggests changes and modifications to equipment to improve production capacity, reduce setup and sanitation time, etc
  • Assists with keeping and developing spare parts inventories
  • Keeps work areas clean and orderly
  • Works safely and observes plant safety rules


Required Education, Certification & Experience:

  • 4 years related experience in repairing packaging machinery and related equipment
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams as it relates to troubleshooting and maintenance
    Problem Solving and decision-making
  • Ability to work overtime
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision

Preferred Education, Certification & Experience:                                                 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent technical degree
  • Spanish as a secondary language preferred                                                                             
Physical Demands:
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 50 pound
  • Be able to push or pull heavy objects up to 250 pounds
  • Be able to work 8 - 12-hour shifts
  • Perform repetitive tasks
  • Routinely stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk
  • Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist and balance, sometimes in awkward or tight spaces
  • Have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus

PPE Requirements: 
  • Safety shoes (steel toe or composite toe)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Protective Gloves, when performing certain tasks
  • Hearing Protection, when required
  • Other personal protective equipment as required for certain tasks
Work Environment:
  • Air Temperatures can range from cold to hot
  • Atmosphere may contain dust, fumes, and odors
  • May include mechanical, electrical, chemical, stored energy, explosive and radiation hazards
