Medical Assistant - NHMP Internal Medicine Associates of Westport, Westport, CT
Description
Summary: Assist MD's with specific examination and treatment of patients. Documenting a detailed medical history, measuring vital signs, performing procedures e.g. PPDs, EKGs and other routine diagnostic and laboratory tests. Prepares treatment rooms and patients for treatment, inventories medical supplies, assists with appointment scheduling and data entry of medical test results. Assist with filing and keeping records orderly and up to date.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and monitor appointments; arranges for follow-up appointments. Understands W-C reimbursement; assists in processing of required documentation in a timely manner. Performs medical transcription if needed; faxes reports. Performs procedural and diagnostic coding.
2. Applies principles of aseptic techniques and infection control. Complies with quality assurance practices. Screens and follows up with patient test results. Assists in education of patients regarding health/safety promotion and disease/injury prevention.
3. Clinical Duties - diagnostic orders/documentation: Collects and processes specimens. Performs diagnostic tests - e.g. EKG, spirometry, vision, hearing. Prepares and administers medications and immunizations; maintains records. Draws blood for lab tests; collects urine samples, etc.
4. Clinical Duties - Patient Care: Obtain patient history and vital signs; administers medical questionnaires e.g. Respiratory, Hearing, Asbestos. Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas. Prepare patient for examinations, procedures, and treatments. Coordinates patient care information with other health care providers; obtains lab, X-ray, and other test results.
5. Maintains supply inventory. Performs quality monitoring e.g. medication expiration dates, etc. Maintains and disposes of regulated substances in compliance with government guidelines. Participates in development/maintenance of policies and procedures.
6. Assists with customer service data collection. Performs group testing's services e.g. hearing screens, vision.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
8. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Required: High School Diploma or GED. New or experienced graduate of Medical Assistant program, or Nursing Assistant training program, or EMT certification, or 3 years job related experience in a medical office. Basic medical knowledge and terminology. Skilled in obtaining accurate patient vital signs.
Minimum Experience: One year
Desired: CPR certification preferred. Bi-lingual preferred.
Salary Range: $20.70 - $34.50 hourly (Rate of pay per years of relative experience)
