Position Title: Data Analyst (Power), Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate: $19.00 (Undergraduate)
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
The Power Department is responsible for maintaining and managing the electrical and third rail systems that supply traction power to the New York City Transit network. It ensures safe, reliable, and continuous electrical service for train operations across the system. The Electrical oversee substations, cable systems, and maintenance, while the Third Rail focuses on maintaining and upgrading the third rail used to power trains. Together, these divisions handle critical repairs, capital projects, and emergency responses to sustain system reliability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assisting in developing automation workflows using Power Automate to streamline internal processes.
- Creating and maintaining Power BI dashboards to support data‑driven decision‑making.
- Collecting, cleaning, and analyzing operational data to identify trends and performance gaps.
- Supporting SharePoint site optimization by organizing content, improving navigation, and enhancing user experience.
- Collaborating with engineers, analysts, and management teams on ongoing projects and initiatives.
- Documenting workflows, procedures, and project updates to ensure clear communication across departments.
- Troubleshooting basic technical issues related to automation tools, dashboards, or SharePoint functionality.
- Participating in meetings, providing status updates, and contributing ideas to improve operational efficiency.
PROJECTS:
- Automation Development Project - Hands-on experience in creating applications, automation workflows, and business intelligence dashboards using tools like Power BI, Power Automate, and SharePoint.
- Data Visualization Project - Practical knowledge in analyzing operational data to identify trends, improve efficiency, and support data-driven decision-making.
- SharePoint Optimization Project - Exposure to real-world project planning, coordination, and communication within a large public transit organization, working alongside engineers, analysts, and management teams.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
- The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
- The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA.
- Major(s) Preferred: Computer Science, or related field.
