POSITON SUMMARY:
These Track Engineering positions within MOW Engineering (Subways NYCT) provide essential support for track and third rail work across MOW, CPM, and capital projects. Responsibilities include designing special and standard track work, conducting field surveys and providing construction support, assisting Procurement with material inspection issues, reviewing shop drawings and first‑article materials, maintaining standard track drawings and specifications, and participating in investigations of derailments or other track incidents. This work is critical to completing track projects on time and ensuring the safety and reliability of NYCT’s track system.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide on-time and accurate track engineering support to MOW, CPM and MTA capital projects that include track and third rail.
- Perform special work and track work designs and conduct field engineering surveys and construction assistance, provide technical support to the Procurement Division to resolve inspection issues, review shop drawings and evaluate first articles materials, maintain and update the Standard Track Drawings and Standards Specification for Track, Infrastructure and Power Distribution Materials, participate in investigation of derailments and/or other track incidents.
- Ensure a timely completion of track projects (both in-house and third-party contracts) as well to ensure the safety of the track system of NYCT.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Civil Engineer I, II, and III:
- A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License
- Four years of full-time experience in civil engineering.
- A master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college will be accepted as equivalent to one year of full-time experience in civil engineering.
Special Note:
In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: A Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. If required, this license must be maintained for duration of appointment.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Computer-savvy with CAD software and other MS office software.
- Preferable knowledge of using surveying equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of MS Office suite and internet and mobile applications, as well as MicroStation and nonconformity databases.
- Knowledge of structural inspection of concrete and steel.
- Ability to read and write technical drawings and correspondence.
- Preferable familiarity with Track Design and/or Construction.
- Preferable Knowledge of Material test reports interpretation.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Tableau, Power BI applications.
- Preferable Strong writing, research, and interpretation skills.
- Ability to function independently with limited work direction.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Final salary is determined experience, skillset, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
