What we offer
The Product Associate will work closely with senior team members to research, evaluate, and optimize SAMI’s modular and prefabricated building systems through a Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) lens. This role will focus on performance-driven design, balancing cost, manufacturability, mechanical, electrical and plumbing, and acoustic, fire, and thermal requirements to ensure our products are competitive, scalable, and ready for production. In our design-build environment, you will collaborate directly with suppliers, fabricators, and consultants to integrate technical solutions early in the design process, ensuring seamless translation from concept to manufacturing. The ideal candidate will be analytical, detail-oriented, and passionate about applying innovative materials and methods to offsite construction.
What you’ll do
- Design, evaluate, and analyze components and assemblies for modular and prefabricated construction systems.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability through value engineering, balancing performance, durability, cost, and ease of installation.
- Perform trade‑off analyses on alternative materials and systems, supporting recommendations with clear business cases.
- Solve complex engineering challenges using innovative, practical design approaches.
- Produce concise technical analyses and summaries demonstrating component optimization across key criteria.
- Lead technical engagement with suppliers to assess product capabilities, integration requirements, and manufacturing fit.
- Partner with procurement to evaluate pricing, lead times, and supply‑chain impacts.
- Develop and maintain product data libraries, including dimensions, performance ratings, and compliance documentation.
- Support product testing and certification to ensure alignment with applicable codes and standards.
- Track and document design changes to support continuous improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you bring
- Post‑secondary education in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in engineering, product design, construction, or materials research.
- Understanding of DfMA principles and experience balancing cost, performance, and manufacturability.
- Broad knowledge of building materials and systems across multiple scopes, including structural, architectural, exterior, interior, electrical, and mechanical elements.
- Experience with BIM and design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with structural, architectural, and MEP considerations in building systems.
- Strong communication skills for engaging in technical, solution‑focused discussions with suppliers, fabricators and consultants.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, design‑build environment.
Bonus Points
- Experience in modular construction, prefabrication, or offsite manufacturing.
- P.Eng designation.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
- Familiarity with construction product testing, certification and regulatory compliance processes.
