Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Director, Finance is a key finance business partner - providing strategic support, advice and consultation to the GTA Homebuilding Business Unit’s operations and business leaders. This role, together with the Vice President, Finance is responsible for financial and management reporting and control systems for the business unit.
What you’ll do
- As the finance business partner, provide the Vice President, Finance and senior business leaders with decision support and proactive financial leadership to deliver on business objectives and strategic priorities
- Drive and build a culture of forward-looking financial planning and analysis with an analytics focus in the GTA Homebuilding Business Unit and finance team
- Lead the delivery of financial reporting across departments and to the broader team
- Take knowledge from business to develop impactful reporting and models to drive insights, performance and accuracy in the planning process.
- Lead, develop and build a high performing team with a strong business partnering mindset.
- Own financial inputs from Sales and Marketing, Construction, Procurement and Design Studio departments. Reporting and analysis will include month end performance, planning models for forecast and budget as well as in year pro-formas for project launches.
- Working with the senior management team, develop key performance metrics, reporting and analysis for the Business Unit. Present these reports and trends to General Manager and management team for review and discussion, and corrective action.
- As part of the Canadian Finance team, work with the VP, Finance to drive common best practices, continuous improvement, processes and reporting
- Manage relationships with internal contacts, including Homebuilding departmental leaders, Corporate Finance, and People & Culture.
- Provide timely and accurate analysis and information to ensure that Management Team maximizes Return on Investments (ROI) and Return on Equity (ROE) while operating within budget.
- Establish solid professional relationships with external contacts such as auditors, banks, government agencies, suppliers and homeowners as required.
- Analyze budgets and “Up to the Minute Forecasts” for all Division entities providing professional and timely management report on variances, trends, and control standards and practices.
- Provide second level review and analysis of Proformas prepared by Land or Housing for viability, accuracy and sensitivity.
- Consistently challenge status quo methodologies and work practices to improve the service level of the function. Ensure change initiatives are undertaken in collaboration with Corporate Finance.
What you bring
- University degree at the bachelor level or above in commerce or business administration with an emphasis on finance/accounting.
- Attainment of a professional accounting designation.
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience roles in Finance roles, preferably in large complex dynamic organizations
- Must have solid previous FP&A experience
- Proven interest, aptitude and results with developing high performing teams, continuous improvement and building best in class reporting/financial models.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current Canadian accounting standards
- Must be results oriented; with proven ability to set and attain deadlines and drive measurable process improvements.
- Experienced people leadership skills, with the capability to build teams and foster strong relationships
- Solid judgment and strategic thinking, including the ability to identify and analyze issues and opportunities.
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
Bonus points
- System experience with OneStream, Hyperion or JD Edwards.
- Experience with Homebuilding construction and Joint Venture reporting
