Engineering Technician

Your role at GEI. 
 
The Woburn, Massachusetts (Boston) geotechnical group includes about 50 engineers.  This group works on numerous challenging projects including buildings, dams, bridges, tunnels, slopes, and more.  We are seeking an Engineering Technician in the Woburn office to perform geotechnical laboratory testing and field work. 
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties 
  • Laboratory testing of soil.
  • Data collection and reporting.
  • Maintenance of laboratory facility and equipment.
  • Calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Performing other laboratory, office, or field-based tasks as requested.
  • Logging of soil and rock explorations and performing field in-situ testing.
  • Observing construction activities and writing field observation reports.
  • Communicating field progress to the project manager.
  • Performing work in a safe and efficient manner.
Minimum Qualifications 
  • Associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or related field.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Willingness to travel on temporary assignments as needed (<10%). 
  • Ability to perform field work on active construction sites without restrictions, and in inclement weather if required.
  • Experience using MS Word and MS Excel.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or geology.
  • 1-2 years work experience.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER, OSHA 10, and/or Nuclear Density Gage certification a plus.
