GEI Consultants, Inc. (GEI)’s Oakland, CA office is seeking a motivated, Civil Engineer with an advanced education in geotechnical engineering to assist with complex and challenging projects at locations in Northern California and throughout the United States. The GEI Oakland engineering practice provides services on a wide range of projects including levees, dams and dam appurtenances, instrumentation, excavation support systems, building and bridge foundations, floodwalls, tunnels, and ground treatment. Staff-level engineers have the opportunity to observe and document field explorations and construction activities, perform and review analyses and design calculations, and prepare technical correspondence, including reports, letters, and design memos under supervision of senior staff.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform geotechnical engineering tasks including site characterization, engineering analyses (foundation, earthwork, slope stability, seepage, seismic), and design for dams, levees, canals, flood control structures, retaining walls, and other infrastructure projects.
- Support data management and geotechnical analysis, technical report development, and assist in preparation of technical documents, presentations, and proposals to clients and regulators.
- Support the development of decision-making documents such as feasibility studies and cost estimates, design and procurement documents such as engineering drawings and specification packages, and tools for contractor bid evaluation and oversight.
- Support site investigations and site assessments including soil borings, cone penetration testing (CPT), and other testing, as well as technical oversight of subcontractors.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil Engineering; M.S. with Geotechnical emphasis is a preferred.
- EIT preferred; ability to obtain professional registration.
- 1-4 years of previous professional experience in civil/geotechnical engineering.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Experience with spatial analysis and visualization software such as CAD, Civil 3D, and GIS.
- Experience with geotechnical analysis software, such as GeoStudio (SEEP/W and SLOPE/W).
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
