Highlights of the job 

We are looking to hire our new Director of Engineering and Operations (Senior Manager, Plant Engineering) to oversee our Texas Water / Wastewater Plant and field operations near Austin, Texas.

This is a unique role, as it leads a team of SME Engineers and collaborates with our Director of Operations on commissioning our new state of the art water and wastewater infrastructure projects and programs. Once completed this person will oversee the regional plant engineering operations and continuous improvements. The ideal candidate has in depth knowledge of plant management operations, water/wastewater biological treatment process, infrastructure, and technologies. This role provides the unique opportunity to become part of a round table of industry leaders who are championing and creating new cutting edge zero waste wastewater reclamation processes and operations.

What you’d be responsible for

 

Reporting to the VP of Industrial Water your key accountabilities will include, but are not limited to: 

MOC - Scale-Up Processes 

  • Works closely with client to review new water qualities and optimize existing technology and look at new technologies while working with lab group to perform independent bench scale tests to verify initial feasibility.
  • Ensures processes are relevant and efficient, fitting both the business needs of the company and the timeline needs of the customer.
  • Works collaboratively with other regional counterparts to standardize and optimize processes and documentation.

Transfer of Production/ROI Analysis 

  • Coordinates with the site manager(s) or the and the VP of Industrial Water on any production changes within the plant, making a Scale-Up, investing in new equipment, and managing the implementation in the given frame from the initial review and then following through detail design to ensure site needs are met.
  • Assumes the role of operational optimization for the process and long term reliability between sites. 

PLC, Digitalization Infrastructure, & Process Improvements 

  • Ensures that long-term strategies for digitalization of production process are implemented in the plant.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement (constructive suggestions) and effective implementation of innovative changes.
  • Establishes long-term strategies for process improvements in the region.
  • Promotes data consistency across the region.

Investments, Project Management, & Manufacturing Optimization 

  • Conducts analyses and develops concepts for the optimization of plants – focus on production and engineering.
  • Participates in preparation of the investment budget in cooperation with the other departments, the follow up of actual costs and the forecasting.
  • Steers the plant capital investment strategy and encourages the implementation of state-of-the-art technology and processes.
  • Ensures that clear and consistent processes are in place to support the plant in managing investment projects in time, costs (cost responsible) and quality with internal or external resources and the fulfilment of laws, rules, and proceedings.
  • Studies, assists, and guides (conformity, standardization) each plant for the preparation of the project specification sheets and the choice of suppliers.

Management 

  • Mentors and leads engineering staff (4-5 engineers), conducting training sessions, coaching on areas of improvement, and advising on situations and identifying solutions regarding the wastewater chemical treatment, infrastructure utilization, and contingency plans.  
  • Ensures the application of EHSQ Requirements (e.g., SHE standard 1-5, Near Misses, 5-S)
  • Establishes Engineering/Operational-related KPIs and ensures that KPIs are tracked appropriately.
  • Traces the relevant KPls (key performance indicators) regarding own activities and targets.
  • Fosters collaboration and communication with various process stakeholders to align or improve various processes according to global standards. 



Ingredients for Success

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering (or related field).
  • Professional Engineering license (P.Eng.) with ability to obtain reciprocity in TX.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of Engineers on water / wastewater treatment operations. 
  • 10+ years of experience collaborating with engineering and operational teams on the startup and operation of water and wastewater infrastructure projects and programs.
  • Operator certification (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical (equipment and piping related), electrical (including automation), water/wastewater treatment and general manufacturing topics and processes. 
  • Advanced project management skills, documentation, and technical drawings.
  • Experienced safety (SHE) implementation and assurance. 
  • Strong financial acumen, cost/benefit improvement.
  • Experienced in Windows program package, SAP/Oracle modules, standard quality management systems
  • Is able to work under pressure without losing the track and the teamwork ability.
