Highlights of the job

We are hiring a Full Time Permanent Wastewater Operator I, II, II or In-Training, working in our San Tan District. This individual will report to the Copper Basin wastewater plant.

 

The Wastewater Operator I, II, II or In-Training will perform semi-skilled and skilled work involving the operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities. This individual perform plant operations duties including checking, troubleshooting, and improving wastewater pumping and treatment facilities.

 

What you’d be responsible for

  • Performs work involving the operations, maintenance and control of wastewater plants and lift stations; monitoring operations, analyzing chemical processes, canvassing the process and performing various functions in process controls. 

 

  • Participates in the operation, maintenance, control, and repair of all related plant process equipment including; pumps, motors, chlorinators, chemical feeds, and basic laboratory instruments to ensure treated wastewater meets County, State and EPA quality standards.  Obtains samples and performs testing. 

 

  • Operates, monitors, and adjusts, as necessary, all related plant process equipment, including chemical pumps. 

 

  • Conducts various tests to determine proper chemical feed rates, calculates chemical feed rates and changes pump settings as needed. 

 

  • Monitors telemetry systems. 

 

  • Assists in the safe unloading and storage of chemicals. 

 

  • Makes equipment adjustments, lubrications, minor repairs and reports equipment problems. 

 

  • Makes field repairs on motors, pumps, and valves. 

 

  • Performs housekeeping duties in order to keep all facilities clean and neat. 

 

  • Must meet or exceed in all areas of the annual performance evaluation in order to qualify for placement in the Step Program for annual pay increases. 

 

  • Help assist in updating waste water facility assets utilizing EPCOR specific CMMS programs

 

  • Other duties as required.

 

 

What’s required to be successful

Knowledge of the operation, methods, practices, techniques and servicing requirements of wastewater treatment and pumping facilities, and wastewater collection facilities. 

 

Knowledge of safety practices in the operation of electrical and mechanical equipment used in wastewater facilities. 

 

Good knowledge of procedures, materials, tools, equipment and safety hazards and precautions common to assigned area of responsibility. 

 

Able to continually lift, bend, climb stairs and work with mechanical hand tools.  Ability to perform accurate arithmetic computations.  Ability to perform standardized wastewater laboratory analyses; familiarity with wastewater rules and regulations.  Ability to read and interpret meters, charts, gauges and recording devices.  Ability to keep neat and accurate records and make computer entries.  Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and regulations.  Ability to move 55 gallon drums.

 

Able to work rotating schedule.  Must have basic computer knowledge.  Construction and/or mechanical experience a plus.  Experience with computers and data collection software.  Experience with hand tools, power tools, and equipment.

 

This position is subject to call back, overtime and week-end/holiday emergency call-outs and call duty. Position has the potential for exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat.

All candidates must have

Wastewater Operator-in-Training requirements: 

  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Arizona Class B CDL desirable.
  • Ability to obtain ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Treatment within six months of hire.

 

Wastewater Operator I requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Treatment and/or ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Collections Certification.
  • Arizona Class B CDL desirable.

 

Wastewater Operator II requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • ADEQ Grade 2 Certification in Wastewater Treatment and ADEQ Grade 2 Certification in Wastewater Collection
  • Must be able to prepare simple spreadsheets and word documents using various software programs.
  • Applicants with Belt Filter Press operations experience will be given preference.
  • Arizona Class B CDL desirable.

Wastewater Operator III requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • ADEQ Grade 3 Certification in Wastewater Treatment and ADEQ Grade 3 Certification in Wastewater Collection.
  • Must be able to prepare necessary relevant spreadsheets and word documents using various software programs as required.
  • Arizona Class B CDL desirable.
