SALARY RANGE: The anticipated salary range for this role is $25 to $35 per hour. This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographical location, and internal alignment.

 

SUMMARY

The Engineering Specialist, Electrical is a hands-on technical role responsible for executing electrical assembly, wiring, and test activities for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). This role builds on foundational electrical skills and expands into more complex harness builds, subsystem integration, electrical troubleshooting, and execution of electrical test procedures with minimal supervision. 

 

The Electrical Specialist II supports prototype development, test articles, and low-rate production hardware, identifies and resolves routine electrical issues, and partners with engineers to improve build quality, reliability, and electrical integration processes. This role represents a fully contributing technical specialist progressing toward senior-level electrical authority. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties. 

  • Build and install electrical assemblies, wire harnesses, and cable assemblies for UAS platforms. 
  • Perform electrical integration activities, including routing, securing, and terminating wiring within airframes and subsystems. 
  • Execute electrical test procedures independently, including continuity checks, insulation resistance tests, and power-on verification. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine electrical issues such as wiring errors, connector faults, grounding problems, or intermittent signals. 
  • Support board-level bring-up activities under engineering guidance. 
  • Read, interpret, and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation. 
  • Perform rework, modifications, and repairs on electrical assemblies in accordance with procedures. 
  • Document build steps, test results, discrepancies, and corrective actions. 
  • Maintain ESD compliance, tool control, and organized electrical workspaces. 
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical specialists, and production teams to improve electrical integration and build processes. 
  • Assumes all other responsibilities as assigned. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following are a non-exhaustive list of qualifications for the position: 

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Technical coursework or certification in electrical technology, electronics, avionics, or a related field preferred. 
  • Hands-on experience in electrical assembly, avionics, electronics manufacturing, or aerospace/robotics environments. 
  • Demonstrated experience building wire harnesses and performing electrical integration with limited supervision. 
  • Solid understanding of electrical principles, wiring standards, and grounding practices. 
  • Proficiency reading and applying electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. 
  • Experience using test equipment such as multimeters, power supplies, and basic signal measurement tools. 
  • Familiarity with common connectors, pinning standards, and harness fabrication techniques. 
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for routine electrical issues. 
  • High attention to detail and commitment to build quality. 
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and prioritize work effectively. 
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally. 
  • Dependable and adaptable in fast-paced development environments. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certificate or AA degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Avionics, or a related field. 
  • Experience supporting UAS, avionics, embedded electronics, or aerospace prototype development. 
  • Prior exposure to test environments, flight hardware, or environmental testing activities. 
  • Soldering proficiency for through-hole and basic surface-mount components. 
  • Familiarity with wire harness documentation, pin-out tables, or cable drawings. 
  • Proactive mindset with interest in improving electrical build processes. 
  • Interest in developing toward Senior (III) electrical specialist responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
