Technical Surfacing TD (DNEG Animation)
Description
- Improve Surfacing department workflow and techniques by troubleshooting issues related to tools and pipeline.
- Work closely with the Build Department Heads and Technical Supervisors to create and solve tool issues and improve workflows.
- Interact and work with other related departments including Rigging, Modelling, Groom, Animation, CFX, and Lighting.
- Provide technical support and training to production teams as required.
- Participate in tools, pipeline and workflow meetings.
- Work collaboratively by taking and interpreting feedback in a timely qualitative manner.
- Maintain documentation for tools development and studio protocols.
- Significant experience within animated feature films.
- Ability to work in a defined schedule and flag any concerns that could impact the completion of the task.
- Extensive experience with Maya, Mari, Houdini and Linux.
- Proficient understanding of Katana and/or Solaris
- Python knowledge.
- Solid understanding of Surfacing department workflows (textures, texel density, shading, and groom) and how they fit into the wider production pipeline.
- Proficient understanding of how/why Surfacing tools aid Surfacing workflow.
- Ability to effectively communicate with Surfacers (including those with little technical knowledge), as well as very technical production technology teams.
- Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems with assigned tasks.
- Comfortable with global collaboration, with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to problem-solve and flag potential problems related to their assigned tasks.
- Houdini and Solaris experience
- USD knowledge, and its use in Surfacing workflows
- Unreal Engine knowledge
- C++ and MEL scripting knowledge
