About the Medical Training Centre

Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training (KCRMT) is a Commonwealth funded, end-to-end rural medical program based on the University’s Broome campus. KCRMT is one of the components that forms the University’s RHMT program which sits within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences. The aim of KCRMT is to contribute to strengthening the medical workforce in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. This is achieved through health research and the delivery of a fully accredited 4-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program that is supported by dedicated academic and professional staff based in the Kimberley. The program will transform the Broome campus, Kimberley, and Pilbara regions and develop the medical workforce in the region.
 
About the role

This position will oversee and assist with the delivery of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) curriculum across the clinical years (3rd and 4th year) of the Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training (KCRMT) MD pathway and will be responsible for promoting the School of Medicine to key stakeholders within the Kimberley, Pilbara, and rural/regional Western Australia. This position reports to the Professorial Chair, KCRMT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Year 3 and 4 curriculum delivery for the KCRMT MD program, including tutorials, staff, student placements, teaching, and assessment duties.
  • Oversee the MD program delivery across clinical years and collaborate with the Foundation Years Coordinator for foundation content delivery.
  • Assist in recruiting and mentoring tutors, monitor student progress, and ensure acquisition of clinical skills through regular liaison with clinical teachers.
  • Manage community student clinical placements, including rosters and processes, and provide leave relief for tutors as needed.
  • Assist in curriculum timetabling, preparation, delivery, and participate in setting, marking, and examining assessments, including OSCEs.
  • Provide pastoral care to students, maintain professional development accreditation, and contribute to School documentation and other duties as directed.

About you

Level C (Senior Lecturer) - A Level C Academic Employee is expected to make significant contributions to teaching, scholarship, research, and professional activities, requiring advanced qualifications or recognised significant experience in their discipline. This role typically demands a doctoral qualification or equivalent, along with a proven record of scholarly and professional achievement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and a current Fellowship of a relevant professional body.
  • Experience in teaching at the Masters level or higher, or in medical, health, or professional practice-based education settings.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of medical education.
  • Commitment to the pastoral care of students.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management qualities, and understanding of Indigenous health, with experience in building relationships with the Indigenous community.
  • Experience in promoting rural health and excellent networking skills with rural key stakeholders, organisations, and the health system.

Level D (Associate Professor) - A Level D Academic Employee builds on the skills of a Level C Academic with a requirement for academic excellence, demonstrated by outstanding contributions to teaching, research, or the profession. This role involves making significant contributions to all activities within the organisational unit or interdisciplinary area and playing a prominent role in their profession or discipline.

  • Medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and a current Fellowship of a relevant professional body.
  • Experience in teaching at the Masters level or higher, or in medical, health, or professional practice-based education settings.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of medical education.
