About the role

The National Deputy Head of School will play a pivotal role in supporting the National Head of School in the leadership, management, and strategic development of the School of Nursing & Midwifery. This senior position encompasses oversight of academic programs, research initiatives, and the student learning experience, while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture that ensure the delivery of high-quality education and research.

Working closely with the Head of School, the Deputy Head will contribute to the shaping and implementing the school’s strategic plan, driving innovation and growth, and leading initiatives to enhance teaching, research, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support strategic leadership in the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the school’s academic programs and courses, ensuring quality assurance, compliance, and achievement of institutional and accreditation targets.
  • Contribute and support the school’s performance in Learning & Teaching, Research, and community engagement, fostering innovation, academic excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the leadership and staff management within the school, including recruitment, retention, supervision, professional development, performance management, workload allocation, and leave management, in line with university delegations.
  • Support the School’s budget planning, financial management, and resource allocation, including oversight of facilities, infrastructure, and operational expenditure.
  • Assist in identifying and pursuing opportunities for additional funding, grants and resource acquisition to support the school’s strategic objectives.
  • Support oversight of the coordination and management of Practicum programs, including relationship and engagement with external healthcare partners and stakeholders to ensure high-quality placement

experiences for students and compliance with accreditation requirements. 

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • A doctoral qualification in Nursing, Midwifery, or a related discipline
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Nurse/Midwife (RN/RM) with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • A sustained record of excellence in teaching and research
  • Proven leadership experience in higher education, including staff and

program development

  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
