About the role

A research-only Academic Staff Member that will assist in a motor neurone disease grant-funded position to assist in the development of the precision medicines to treat disease. This role will contribute towards Dr Frances Theunissen’s research team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research independently or as part of a team, contributing to conference papers and publications.
  • Engage in professional activities, including attending conferences and seminars, subject to available funding.
  • Perform limited administrative tasks related to the research area.
  • Develop research-related teaching materials with guidance from senior staff.
  • Occasionally contribute to teaching activities related to research projects.
  • Design experiments, operate advanced laboratory and technical equipment, and conduct advanced research procedures.
  • Attend meetings associated with research, departmental, or faculty activities, and participate in relevant committees.
  • Provide advice to postgraduate students within the research field.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Completion of four years of tertiary study in a relevant discipline or equivalent qualifications/research experience, typically including an honours degree or higher.
  • Demonstrated research experience with evidence of potential, such as publications, conference papers, or professional contributions.
  • Preferred prior experience with cell culture techniques.
  • Relevant experience in research, teaching, or technical fields, as well as contributions to professional or creative achievements.
  • Ability to support the values and objectives of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
  • Evidence of a strong research background with contributions to professional or technical fields.
