About the office/school

This role reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic (DVCA). The postholder will liaise with cognate areas within the wider portfolio e.g. Innovation and Design to create a seamless approach within the DVCA portfolio.
 
About the role

The role of Director, Academic innovation, will support the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic in building educational capability and a culture of academic excellence across the institution. The role will have responsibility for leading strategies and programs aimed at enhancing the professional capabilities of academic and professional staff involved in the delivery of coursework education.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to foster an environment of positive disruption, innovation, creativity in teaching methodologies and educational technologies to enhance learner experience and engagement incorporating cutting edge technology and pedagogical approaches.
  • Leverage extensive experience in collaborating and partnering with corporate and government agencies to develop and provide new curriculum or programs, including micro-credentials.
  • Support faculty in the adoption and integration of new technologies and teaching methodologies.
  • Build a network of internal capability to develop and deliver key Innovation Programs and/ or partner or outsource development and delivery as appropriate.
  • Assess and ensure the financial viability, scalability, and alignment of these programs with contemporary skills demands.
  • Support the development of a suite of Innovation Programs that guide researchers and external partners to fast track their technology development and pathway to commercialisation and or adoption.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder engagement to ensure successful development of the University of Notre Dame Australia capability in Innovation.
  • Proactively identifies and responds to the needs of learning markets both domestically and internationally, including drivers, outcomes, and skills for the future.
  • Facilitate the integration of industry and government insights into curriculum design to meet evolving workforce needs.
  • Identify emerging trends in higher education and integrate these into the institution's academic offerings.
  • Manage the budget and resources allocated to academic innovation initiatives, ensuring cost-effective use and alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for funding and grants to support academic innovation projects.
  • Develop and implement metrics to assess the impact of academic innovations on student outcomes, faculty performance, and institutional reputation.
  • Regularly report on the progress and outcomes of academic innovation initiatives to senior leadership.
  • Comply with all other reasonable training and duties as identified by the line manager (or delegate).
  • Comply with University policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Postgraduate and/or professional qualifications and extensive relevant experience
  • Proven experience in academic leadership or senior roles within higher education, with proven expertise in management of significant human and material resources.
  • Demonstrated success in curriculum development, program assessment, student related governance and educational innovation.
  • Demonstrated experience and deep knowledge in developing and implementing Higher Education accreditation processes, or similar accreditation processes.
  • Experienced in developing, testing and implementing new innovation and/ or technology and processes to improve existing, or introduce new, educational product offerings.
  • Highly experienced in leading a cross functional, project team to achieve objectives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of the higher education sector, particularly about current issues and requirements in relation to advancements within the industry and sector.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to collaborate and influence across the university and with external stakeholders.
  • Sustained experience in creating impact through exceptional educational program design, delivery, and innovation.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading change and driving a high-performance culture.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic and administrative staff, and cross functional teams to achieve objectives.
  • Developed Project management skills & financial acumen.
  • Strong project management and time management capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication and report-writing skills
