The University Secretary’s Office promotes and supports good governance and decision-making across the University and supports statutory, regulatory and compliance obligations.
About the role
Reporting to the University Secretary, this position will manage the University’s Secretariat activities, providing expert and impartial governance advice and services to the University’s governing boards, and statutory committees. This position will manage consistent and effective committee servicing across the University and provide accurate governance advice across the University community to ensure governance standards are upheld in accordance with responsibilities under relevant legislation, Statutes, regulations, policy and
approved Charters and Terms of Reference.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage external and internal reviews of governance processes, ensuring appropriate stakeholder engagement and implementation of improvements.
- Provide secretariat services for the Board of Directors, relevant sub-committees, Board of Trustees and Board of Governors, ensuring governance standards are met.
- Manage efficient and timely production and distribution of Board papers, agendas and minutes and initiate improvement to processes and software systems used, ensuring relevant and accurate data to support decision making.
- Oversee management of committee servicing and related governance processes across the Secretariat, ensuring processes are consistently applied and high-quality standards are upheld.
- Oversee the management of all aspects of secretariat services for the University’s statutory committees, ensuring good information flow and coordination between executive, faculty, school and university committees.
- Lead the Committee Services Officer to ensure effective provision of secretariat services to Academic Council and other key governance committees.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- A post graduate qualification in governance, Business Administration or other relevant field, preferably a member and/or having undertaken Governance Institute/AICD courses in governance.
- Extensive experience managing a secretariat function, providing high level and timely advice on corporate and academic governance and committee servicing matters, preferably within the higher education
sector.
