We are looking for:
Critical Care Veterinary Assistant
Never a dull moment in Critical Care! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. You should enjoy phlebotomy, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.
What you’ll do:
· Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize care based on initial assessment
· Assist DVMs with patient assessments, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures
· Monitor patient behavior and notify medical staff of any changes in condition
· Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory analysis
· Follow hospital safety protocols during emergency situations, including safe restraint and triage procedures
· Provide emotional support to clients and comfort to patients throughout their stay, including during critical care or end-of-life situations
· Record and deliver organized rounds; discuss patient cases and gather additional information as needed
· Maintain open and professional communication with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to ensure continuity of care
· Partner with the patient care team on treatment plans, nursing care concerns, and client communications
· Provide client education, including home care instructions, medication guidance (indications and potential side effects), and wellness updates on hospitalized patients
· Support the admission and discharge process by preparing paperwork, updating medical records, and collaborating with client service teams to ensure clear communication
· Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of patient housing, treatment areas, and clinical equipment in accordance with infection control standards
· Assist with laundry, waste disposal, and general housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe working environment
· Assist with stocking and rotating medical supplies; ensure treatment areas are consistently well-stocked to support patient care
Who you are:
· Prior veterinary experience required, previous Critical Care, Nursing or Emergency experience desired
· Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
· Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
