Hiring Range: $26.89 - $33.61 Per Hour

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is hiring a full-time Critical Incidents Coordinator to join our Quality Improvement team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for tracking and investigating critical incidents across the agency, as well as supporting system-wide efforts to enhance client safety, service quality, and regulatory compliance. This position plays a vital role in helping KMHS achieve its mission of delivering exceptional behavioral healthcare with integrity and accountability.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and triage reported critical incidents across KMHS programs and determine the severity and level of response required
  • Lead incident investigations, gather supporting documentation, and identify root causes
  • Develop and implement quality improvement plans in collaboration with the Director of Quality Improvement
  • Ensure timely communication with leadership and state/regulatory agencies, meeting all notification and documentation deadlines
  • Maintain detailed and confidential records of incident events, response steps, and resolutions
  • Collaborate with program teams to develop process improvements that reduce future risk and improve client care
  • Review documentation to ensure consistency with agency guidelines and clinical standards; coordinate with teams when additional clarification or information is needed
  • Track quality improvement outcomes to identify service gaps and trends
  • Analyze critical incident data in partnership with the Quality Data Analyst and prepare reports for leadership and compliance partners
  • Assist in preparation for internal and external audits, including participation in Department of Health and Managed Care Organization reviews
  • Maintain strong knowledge of behavioral health standards, compliance regulations, and industry best practices
  • Support agency-wide quality initiatives and foster a culture of learning and accountability

 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, nursing, health administration, public health, occupational safety, or other behavioral health or human services field OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience (3 years or more).

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in healthcare, particularly with quality, patient safety, or risk management.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years’ experience in healthcare, particularly with quality, patient safety, or risk management.

  1. A strong understanding of healthcare operations, client/patient care, and quality improvement processes.

  1. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with a variety of healthcare professionals and stakeholders. 
  2. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks and make timely and efficient decisions that benefit the organization.

  1. Effectively document, analyze, and report on critical incidents. 
  2. Quickly assess situations, identify problems, and make effective decisions is vital during a crisis. 
  3. Foster teamwork, work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  4. Assist in building positive working relationships with staff of all agency departments.

 

 

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

 

Work Environment: Office.

 

Mental/Physical RequirementsWhile performing the job duties, the employee is required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, talk, or listen.  Peripheral vision is also required for this position. Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.
