Hiring Range: $18.13 – $21.75 Per Hour

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is hiring a Facilities Assistant / Landscaper to help maintain the beauty, safety, and functionality of our facilities and grounds. In this role, you’ll perform a variety of landscaping, maintenance, and repair tasks that keep KMHS sites welcoming and in excellent condition for clients, staff, and visitors. This position plays a vital part in ensuring that our buildings, vehicles, and equipment are operating safely and efficiently, while maintaining a clean and attractive campus environment that reflects KMHS’s commitment to care and community.



Primary Responsibilities:

• Work independently to perform groundskeeping and facility maintenance efficiently and safely.
• Inspect grounds and parking areas daily, removing litter, trash, and debris.
• Perform landscaping maintenance, including mowing, edging, trimming shrubs and trees, weeding, planting, and applying fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides as needed.
• Water, plant, and maintain grass, flowers, shrubs, and trees to ensure healthy and attractive landscaping.
• Remove leaves, branches, and debris; maintain flower beds and landscaped areas.
• Conduct cleaning, maintenance, and repair of landscaping tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Safely handle all chemicals and materials in accordance with safety data sheets (SDS) and regulatory requirements.
• Report damage, safety hazards, or security issues promptly to the supervisor.
• Operate light maintenance and construction equipment such as ATVs, backhoes, snowplows, and man lifts as needed.
• Collaborate with other facilities staff to ensure seamless maintenance operations and respond to special projects as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

This position requires driving in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency; therefore, the incumbent must meet agency driving requirements, including meeting the minimum age requirement of 21 years old, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE: Intermediate (minimum 3 years of job-related experience)

 

Performance Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge and experience in proper grounds keeping and gardening techniques required, including knowledge of proper watering, fertilizing techniques, and pest management.

SKILLS:

  • Must be able to work independently and display good organizational skills.

 

ABILITIES:

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Understand safety data sheets and safe chemical handling practices. 

 

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. Maintenance and construction equipment including ATV, backhoe, snowplow, and man lift. 

 

Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.

 

Mental/Physical Requirements

Requires:

  • The ability to function indoors in an office environment and outdoors engaged in physically active work. 
  • Ambulatory ability to move to different work locations and bend, stoop, climb, and perform inspections.
  • The ability to wear various protective equipment, work in areas with extreme temperature variation, and work in cramped or uneven spaces.
  • Visual acuity to observe work sites, read written materials, blueprints, plans, and schematics. 
  • Auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone, including projecting voice in noisy work settings.

May require the ability to lift from the floor, waist, or overhead objects up to 75 pounds occasionally.
