Description

The Senior Material Developer will manage all material development across accessories and apparel. This will include but is not limited to material planning, quality, and compliance.

  • Leads and manages the material development that aligns with Loungefly’s Creative Vision.
  • Research, develops, and approves materials while adhering to the Design and Development Calendar.
  • Partners with material suppliers and factories to achieve consistent material performance and quality in collaboration with the testing and quality standards of the company.
  • Evaluates material suppliers’ capabilities and their ability to develop and deliver fabric which adheres to the company’s quality, cost, and compliance requirements.
  • Seeks newness and market intelligence from key material suppliers.
  • Creates and maintains physical and digital material database library to be used by the Product Design and Development teams.
  • Executes, manages, and communicates strategic material plans to our factories and cross functional teams and factories.
  • Collaborates with PD and Factories on potential options to utilize any stock materials.
  • Drives all material cost negotiations with suppliers.
  • Apply knowledge of material manufacturing and sourcing to optimize quality, cost, lead times, and compliance.
  • Monitors and identify any potential material issues in performance, quality, or compliance for all materials.
  • Keeps up to date on current market trends, new technologies, and customer preferences within materials.
  • Supports sustainability efforts by identifying and sourcing eco-friendly materials.
  • Educates and informs the PD team of any materials limitations or performance restrictions.
  • Ensure material information is accurately and properly entered into the Product Development tracking system as needed or required.


Must-Have Superhero Gadgetry

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Textiles, Sourcing, or Related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in material development, including material management for handbags, footwear, apparel or related field.
  • Understanding and knowledge of material quality, manufacturing, and compliance testing within softline products.
  • Understanding of product design and development process from concept through production.
  • Has extensive knowledge and experience working with overseas material suppliers.
  • Global material testing and compliance knowledge required.
  • Extensive knowledge of polyurethane (PU) and Polyvinyl Chloride(PVC) materials as well as other materials used in softline accessories and apparel.
  • Strong communication skills (Both verbal and written) and ability to communicate within all levels of the organization (including C-Level) as well as with external partners and suppliers.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Should be comfortable working independently as well as with a team.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve problems quickly, accurately, and autonomously.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with cross functioning teams.
  • Flexibility in a fast paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a variety of deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Produce suite.

 

Work Environment

 The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, employee will be regularly sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle, lift or feel. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk or talk and hear. The employee will frequently have to squat and bend. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without physical limitations or restrictions.
