BRG Energy & Climate is seeking a senior consulting staff position for its International Arbitration team . This position requires a highly motivated problem solver with solid analytical, writing, presentation, research, and organizational skills, accompanied by a desire to advance within the organization. The work will involve both execution and oversight of client engagement work streams that will be quantitative and qualitative in nature for energy & climate related disputes. Responsibilities include management of junior staff, design of quantitative and economic/financial analysis, ground-up modeling of financial data and market data, drafting of written reports, quality control, development and presentation of expert reports, preparation of other client reports and presentations, contribution to client interaction, industry research, and support of business development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and execute all aspects of small to medium-size client engagements and discrete segments of larger projects, including defining the relevant tasks/milestones and adjusting scope and approach as priorities change.
  • Design and implement financial, economic, and statistical analyses and create from the ground-up financial, economic, and/or damages models for litigation and arbitration purposes.
  • Generate client deliverables and act as a leading contributor to expert reports, including drafting written content on technical and quantitative analysis and overseeing junior staff drafts on same.
  • Play lead role in preparing and finalizing quality internal and external communication.
  • Perform qualitative energy industry research, synthesize findings, and provide client-ready written summaries, PowerPoint presentations, and memos.
  • Contribute to client interaction via email and conference calls as appropriate.
  • Prepare client presentations and travel to client locations to conduct onsite meetings.
  • Demonstrate creativity and efficient use of relevant software tools, analytical methods, and computer models to develop solutions.
  • Prioritize assignments and responsibilities in order to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Delegate assignments to junior staff, instruct and monitor progress, and review work product for completeness and accuracy.
  • Participate in group practice meetings, contribute to business development initiatives, write business proposals and proposed work scopes, and contribute to other office and team functions, such as recruiting.
  • Mentor and develop staff members through career development planning and skill set training.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge of physical, financial, and economic analysis of energy markets and a solid knowledge base within at least one of the following topic areas: domestic or international gas & LNG markets; domestic or international power & renewables markets; hydrogen and climate change;
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, accounting, business, and/or a relevant discipline;
  • Minimum of six (6+) year of experience in economic or litigation consulting. Professional services experience is a must;
  • Must demonstrate mastery and prior work experience in at least one of the following disciplines: 1) superior writing and communication capabilities as demonstrated in international arbitration and legal dispute settings, including excellence in crafting analytical arguments AND/OR 2) deep experience in energy and infrastructure finance, including valuation, advanced financial and cash flow modeling, economic modeling, statistical analysis, and data analytics in a damages or corporate/project finance context;
  • Desire to work within an enthusiastic and high energy team environment as well as be a self-motivator with ability to work independently;
  • Strong verbal communication skills and attention to detail;
  • Outstanding research, analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Advanced mastery of Microsoft Excel, including at least some programming capability (i.e., automating tasks using VBA);
  • Expert capability with MS Word, MS Power Point, and Outlook;
  • Commitment to producing high quality analysis and client deliverables;
  • Strong work ethic and ability to support multiple projects and deadlines;
  • High degree of self-confidence and determination;
  • Highly developed organization and time management skills; and
  • Ability to travel and work overtime hours as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s level degree (e.g., MBA, MA, MS, etc.) in economics, finance, accounting, engineering, or a related discipline;
  • Advanced certification of CFA or CPA or others preferred;
  • Fluency in French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic and/or Russian and/or
  • Experience in statistical analysis programs (e.g., Python/Pandas and R), Tableau, SQL, and financial databases (e.g., Bloomberg and S&P Capital IQ), with a desire to expand those capabilities.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $230,000 per year
