Description

Tyler Technologies is hiring a Vice President of Product to lead our product teams for our School Administrative Solutions portfolio (Finance/HR/ERP). Our software runs the business side of K-12 school districts: finance, purchasing, payroll, human resources, and the state and regulatory reporting districts are required to file.

This is a build role in a growth business. We have an established K-12 franchise, the most tenured domain expertise in the market, and an explicit mandate to grow it: into new states, new product categories, and new buyers. That growth is earned through client value. The districts we serve should run better because of our software, and this role is accountable for making that true across the portfolio and for showing it in measurable client outcomes.

People leadership comes first. You will lead, hire, and develop a distributed team of product managers, product owners, and product analysts, and you will be measured on the strength of the team you build.

This is also a market-facing role. You will spend a substantial share of your time in the field: with district clients and prospects, on stage at industry conferences and user meetings, in front of client advisory boards, and in the room on partnership and acquisition conversations. Strategy for this portfolio gets shaped in the market, and this is the role that does that work and brings the judgment back to the team.

Third, you will lead our AI agenda for the portfolio: what we deliver to clients inside the products, and how the product organization itself works faster and better with AI. We hold a people-first view of this. Our deep K-12 domain experts are the asset, and AI should amplify them, freeing them to focus on judgment, client insight, and the harder problems.

You will work as a peer to our development and quality leaders and report to the SVP and General Manager of the Tyler Schools Market.

Responsibilities:

LEAD AND GROW THE TEAM

  • Lead, hire, and develop a distributed product team of managers, owners, and analysts across the US and Manila
  • Put the market's deepest K-12 administrative expertise to work on the highest-value problems. This team's experience is a real competitive asset, and directing it is one of this role's biggest levers
  • Grow product managers into portfolio owners, and set clear expectations, leveling, and career paths
  • Set a high bar, coach directly, and invest in the growth of every person on the team
  • Build a market-facing product culture in which every product manager carries direct client contact, and hold the team to it
  • Establish the operating rhythm the team works to, and represent its work upward and outward

REPRESENT US IN THE MARKET

  • Spend substantial time with clients and prospects, including executive briefings and district site visits, and lead the rest of the product team to do the same
  • Speak at industry conferences, Tyler Connect, regional user meetings, and state association events
  • Own the portfolio's client advisory boards: charter, membership, cadence, and closing the loop on what you hear
  • Sponsor strategic and competitive sales pursuits alongside sales leadership
  • Build durable relationships across the K-12 industry: state associations and agencies, state-level partnerships, consultants, and analysts
  • Develop and manage strategic product and state-level partnerships from evaluation through commercial terms and integration
  • Lead product diligence and integration for acquisitions
  • Carry the market back into the roadmap through competitive intelligence, pricing feedback, and win/loss themes

LEAD THE AI AGENDA

  • Own the AI product agenda for the portfolio: what we build into the products, how it is packaged and priced, and how adoption is measured
  • Partner with our AI engineering team to turn product intent into delivered capability
  • Drive AI into how the product organization works, including requirements drafting, backlog grooming, research synthesis, and triage, so our domain experts spend more of their week on judgment and client insight
  • Lead this as an augmentation agenda. Our K-12 domain expertise is the competitive asset; AI amplifies it, and part of this role is bringing the team along with clarity and care
  • Be the credible voice on AI with clients, prospects, and executives, separating what is shipping from what is speculative
  • Set the standard for responsible AI use in products handling sensitive data

OWN THE PORTFOLIO

  • Own product strategy and the roadmap across finance, payroll and HR, state and regulatory reporting, and platform integrations
  • Set investment priorities across the portfolio and allocate product capacity against them
  • Partner with development and quality leadership on release planning, delivery commitments, and product quality
  • Guide product decisions that support moving our installed base to cloud delivery
  • Work with sales, marketing, and client experience on positioning, differentiation, and pricing input
  • Establish consistent product practice for discovery, requirements, prioritization, and release readiness

Required Qualifications

  • 15 or more years in product management, including 10 or more leading product managers
  • Proven people leadership. You have hired, developed, and retained product talent, and you can point to people you have promoted
  • Experience owning a portfolio of products or modules rather than a single product
  • A genuinely market-facing track record. You have carried a portfolio's external voice: client and prospect meetings, conference and user group speaking, and advisory board or customer council ownership
  • Demonstrated AI leadership. You have taken AI capabilities to production in a commercial product, not only piloted them, and you can explain them credibly to a non-technical buyer
  • You have led an AI change through an organization and brought the team with you
  • Background in enterprise or public sector software
  • Experience with products carrying regulatory or compliance obligations
  • Track record of prioritizing with data and holding those decisions with stakeholders
  • Ability to work as a peer with engineering and quality leaders
  • Willingness to travel regularly for client, conference, and partner commitments
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • K-12 education technology, or state and local government software
  • ERP domain experience in finance, payroll, or human resources
  • An established network in K-12 or public sector software, including association and agency relationships
  • Experience leading product diligence and integration for an acquisition
  • Experience building and managing strategic product or channel partnerships
  • Experience as a public spokesperson for a portfolio, including analyst relations, press, or conference keynotes
  • Experience moving an installed base from on-premises to cloud
  • Experience leading globally distributed teams across multiple time zones
  • MBA or other advanced degree
