Associate Product Manager

Product Strategy Troy, Michigan

Description

About the Role

Every month, police officers, detectives, and other public safety professionals write thousands of reports in Tyler's Report Writing platform. Those reports capture the facts of an incident, support investigations and case outcomes, inform agency operations, and help build public trust.

We're looking for an Associate Product Manager to help make that work faster, clearer, and more reliable. You'll improve the tools officers, supervisors, records personnel, and agency administrators rely on to document incidents accurately and complete critical work with less friction.

This is an opportunity with direct, real-world impact. The decisions you help shape will affect how officers capture information in demanding environments, how supervisors review and approve reports, and how agencies maintain the accurate records their communities depend on.

You will join a collaborative team that values curiosity, thoughtful problem-solving, and making a meaningful difference through the products we build. If you are curious about how people work, energized by solving consequential problems, and eager to grow your product management skills, you'll find a compelling opportunity here.

Hybrid Work Policy:  This is a hybrid position which requires the candidate to be local to the Troy, MI office 3 days per week.

Please Note: We are not considering candidates who require visa sponsorship for this position. This is a budgetary decision and due to the significant talent available currently who do not require such sponsorship.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop a deep understanding of how officers, supervisors, records personnel, and agency administrators create, review, approve, and manage police reports, including the operational consequences when those workflows create friction.
  • Talk directly with customers and partner with support and implementation teams to uncover unmet needs, recurring pain points, and opportunities to make report writing faster, clearer, and more reliable.
  • Help frame customer problems, evaluate potential solutions, and translate product direction into well-defined plans, user stories, workflow designs, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation.
  • Partner closely with engineering and design to turn complex public-safety workflows into intuitive, dependable product experiences.
  • Help prioritize the backlog by weighing customer impact, agency needs, business value, technical dependencies, effort, and urgency.
  • Participate actively throughout delivery: clarify requirements, make informed tradeoffs, validate functionality, and help the team maintain momentum toward meaningful outcomes.
  • Test new capabilities against real-world reporting workflows, ensuring they support accurate documentation and are practical for the people who rely on them every day.
  • Investigate customer-reported issues with support, clients, and engineering; articulate expected behavior, customer impact, and the path to resolution.
  • Coordinate with adjacent product teams on connected workflows, integrations, and shared data so the broader public-safety experience works together.
  • Help communicate the value of releases through demonstrations, release notes, training materials, and internal enablement.
  • Monitor product health and user behavior through analytics, customer feedback, and operational signals; identify friction, adoption trends, and opportunities to improve the report-writing experience.
  • Measure the impact of product improvements through adoption, usage, customer feedback, and product-health metrics – using what you learn to make the experience better for the public-safety professionals who depend on it.

Responsibilities

  • 3+ years of experience in product management, business analysis, software development, implementation, or a closely related role.
  • A genuine curiosity about how people work and the ability to turn what you learn into better product experiences.
  • Strong product thinking: you can break down a problem, ask thoughtful questions, organize ambiguity, and help identify the highest-impact path forward.
  • Clear, concise communication skills. You can write requirements that give engineering and design teams confidence, and explain customer needs to technical and non-technical partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through, especially when a workflow, data point, or user experience can affect the accuracy of critical public-safety records.
  • Ability to build alignment across engineering, design, support, implementation, and customer-facing teams around customer needs, product priorities, and shared outcomes.
  • An eagerness to learn technical concepts, understand system and data dependencies, and make sound tradeoffs alongside experienced teammates.
  • A customer-centered mindset and interest in understanding the real-world context behind requests – not just the feature being asked for.
  • A desire to work on mission-critical applications where reliability, accuracy, security, and usability make a meaningful difference for the people and communities who depend on them.

Qualifications

  • Technical fluency that helps you understand system architecture, integrations, data dependencies, and the tradeoffs behind product decisions.
  • Experience using product analytics, databases, or basic data queries to investigate customer behavior and inform decisions.
  • Familiarity with accessibility, security, and sensitive-data considerations with an appreciation for the care required when building products people trust with critical information.
  • Experience helping launch AI-powered product capabilities in real customer environments, with an understanding of user trust, quality, safety, adoption, and how to learn from production use.
