Key Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Corporate Controller is primarily responsible for leading the Company’s public reporting processes and accounting activities including internal and external financial reporting, internal controls management, MD&A preparation, Information Technology and any related financial presentations and reporting processes. The Corporate Controller oversees the preparation of timely and accurate financial information and meets all Company internal and external reporting policies and deadlines. The successful candidate will also collaborate extensively externally with site-based finance and accounting teams across the Company’s portfolio and internally with corporate finance, financial planning, tax, and IT teams.

 

The Corporate Controller provides executive management with relevant and accurate financial information to effectively manage and monitor the performance of the Company’s assets. Additionally, the Controller provides sound research, technical procedures, and documentation of all accounting positions, policies, and technical issues. The Corporate Controller is also responsible for the financial controls and efficient processes needed to support the Companies’ businesses and audits. He/she/they will have experience leading and motivating multidisciplinary financial teams located across multiple jurisdictions and within a culture committed to safety, to environmentally sustainable operations, and to operating in a socially responsible manner.


Core Responsibilities

 

  • Directing accounting, accounts payable, payroll management, and information system activities, ensuring department goals and objectives are aligned with and support all areas of the business unit.
  • Overseeing and driving all public company reporting processes, including drafting of the quarterly MD&A and reporting to various external finance providers.
  • Managing processes around month end close, reconciliations, operational cost reporting, and variance analyses.
  • Managing interim and annual financial audit processes and ensuring reporting timelines are met and supports the public disclosure of Company results.
  • Preparing the annual information form (40-F), management information circular, and financial information contained within prospectuses and offering memorandums and coordinating related Sedar+ and Edgar filings.
  • Participating in planning processes including budget and forecast preparation, tax planning, and treasury management.
  • Maintaining and keeping current the corporate and other project data rooms.
  • Managing an effective system of internal controls, ensuring alignment with corporate policy directives.
  • Ensuring commercial, financial, and procurement processes are aligned with internal controls, risk management, and delegation of authority and purchasing policies.
  • Maintaining an effective communication system with mine site controllers and stakeholders, ensuring deliverables and associated deadlines are met.
  • Researching and advising complex International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”). accounting issues, draft accounting treatment memos, and make recommendations.
  • Working with external advisers (accounting, valuation, legal, tax, and insurance) to support key processes.
  • Developing and implementing accounting policies across the organization for the mine site controllers and head office to implement and monitor compliance.
  • Driving continuous improvement within the functional area and throughout the organization

 


Defining Success

Critical success factors for the Corporate Controller within the first 12 months include:

 

  • Developing a deep understanding of the Company, its operations, and its strategic annual business plans.
  • Building a trusting relationship with the CFO and the Director of Finance & Manager Treasury and demonstrate credibility across the executive leadership team and accounting team as the subject matter expert on all accounting and financial reporting matters of the Company.
  • Establishing credibility as a Company representative with external stakeholders (i.e., auditors, tax and legal advisors, financial institutions).
  • Establishing ownership of the role and evaluating and initiating new ideas designed to improve efficiency and quality of financial management, reporting and controls.
  • Supporting and leading direct reports in the areas of process improvement and innovation, proactively assessing opportunities to achieve a sustainable, cost effective and competitive business.

 


Professional Experience and Qualifications

 

The successful candidate joins Taseko with a track record of success as an experienced finance and accounting professional in mining and metals or a related industrial industry. Expertise should include financial reporting, generating management reports and analysis, complex budget management, and a strong understanding of public company financial reporting, internal controls, and risk management. The Corporate Controller has at least ten years of experience in a similar finance and accounting role, and experience leading diverse finance teams. Additional qualifications and requirements include:

 

 

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Ten years of experience in mining or similar resource / industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in IFRS and public company reporting requirements in Canada and the U.S.
  • Public practice experience at a big four accounting firm an asset.
  • Solid experience working with ERP systems.
  • Advanced user of financial data and reporting systems such as Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with PowerBI is an asset.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience with controllership experience.
  • Solid organizational and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to liaise with other disciplines is required.

 


Education and Professional Designations

 

The successful Corporate Controller has completed his/her undergraduate degree in finance, commerce, or business administration and possesses a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA or recognized equivalent). A graduate degree in business administration is preferred but not required. Additional education in information/finance systems is preferred but not required. All academic degrees and professional qualifications are subject to verification by an independent third-party service provider.

Travel Requirements

 

 

The Corporate Controller will be required to undertake some limited travel as required, principally in British Columbia with more time spent in Arizona as Florence Copper enters the operating phase.

 


Compensation

 

A competitive compensation package is provided, including base salary, vacation allowance, incentive-based bonus programs, stock option plan participation, health and insurance benefit programs, and a Retirement Savings Plan. The final compensation profile is commensurate upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.
