Role Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Geologist to join our Geology Team at Gibraltar Mine. This is an excellent opportunity for a Geologist to grow their Mine Geology skills through hands-on experience at one of Canada’s largest open pit copper mines.
The successful candidate will contribute to projects for improve grade control process, support infill drilling programs and participate in training and mentorship of Geologist in Training. They will work directly with the Mine Engineering and operations teams on continuous improvement initiatives to promote mineral resource stewardship and operational excellence. This role provides the opportunity to work closely with senior professionals, and develop technical competencies.
Core Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously develop safety skills and habits to keep safe.
- Strong commitment to safety leadership.
- Work with and provide support to the Mine Engineering group which may include rotating roles.
- Mine Geology and Ore control:
- Contribute to Ore control improvement initiatives
- Support Ore control team with daily activities
- Pit wall mapping, and Geological interpretation
- Completing weekly projection model, bench reconciliation, ore cuts and stockpile management.
- Modeling and reconciliation
- Updating and maintenance of short range and stockpile models
- Contribute to completion of month end reconciliation and reporting
- Support resource improvement initiatives
- Project Geology
- Support planning, execution and reporting of infill drilling programs.
- Core logging, chip logging
- Support Near Mine Exploration projects
- Support mine to mill projects and initiatives.
Education & Experience
- Degree or similar education in Geology/Geological Engineering.
- Eligible to register as a P.Geo with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia
- 4+ years Open pit mine experience is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Geological experience mapping and logging of porphyry or similar deposit types would be an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Mineplan, Datashed, Leapfrog Geo and Wenco would be an asset.
