Role Overview
Reporting to the Mine Accountant, the Payroll Accountant is an integral position within payroll and finance team supporting Gibraltar’s employees by providing timely and accurate payroll processing as well as providing positive guidance and education to on employees’ payroll issues and questions.
Please note this position requires the successful incumbent to relocate to Williams Lake, BC, or the surrounding area. This is not a permanent remote working position.
Core Responsibilities
- Collect and enter daily and weekly timecards.
- Process payroll within established deadlines and established policies.
- Review and update payroll forms.
- Complete payroll reconciliations.
- Prepare annual employee T-4’s and employee records of employment.
- Post tax, EI and CPP information related to government accounts.
- Produce internal and external payroll reports, including compliance and statutory reporting.
- Proactively drive relationship development with internal and external stakeholders.
- Be a safety leader and mentor to those within the department and site.
Education & Experience
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) Designation an asset.
- Completion of post-secondary education, preferably business or accounting related.
- High school diploma
- Two or more years of payroll experience, preference for understanding of union contracts.
- Experience implementing or upgrading payroll/HRIS systems an asset.
Skills & Competencies
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- High degree of discretion and critical thinking while handling confidential information.
- Proficient in MS office with a high degree of accuracy.
