Position Summary
The SXEW Shipper is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely handling, packaging, documentation, and shipment of finished copper cathodes and related materials produced through the SXEW process. This position ensures compliance with internal inventory controls, quality standards, shipping regulations, and customer specifications while maintaining strong coordination between operations, warehouse, accounting, and transportation providers.
Key Responsibilities
Finished Product Handling & Shipping
- Coordinate staging and preparation of copper cathode bundles for shipment.
- Verify bundle weights, counts, tagging, and product identification.
- Ensure cathodes meet customer specifications and quality standards before shipment.
- Inspect banding, strapping, and packaging for transport compliance.
- Arrange transportation with approved carriers.
- Load trucks and railcars safely using forklifts or other material handling equipment.
- Secure loads in compliance with DOT and site-specific regulations.
Documentation & Inventory Control
- Generate and verify bills of lading (BOL), packing slips, weight tickets, and shipping manifests.
- Maintain accurate shipment records in ERP or inventory systems.
- Reconcile shipment quantities with production reports.
- Coordinate with Accounts Receivable to ensure proper documentation for invoicing.
- Maintain chain-of-custody documentation for metal shipments.
- Track outbound shipments and confirm delivery with customers.
- Assist with month-end inventory counts and reconciliations.
Coordination & Communication
- Communicate daily with SXEW operations regarding production volumes and availability.
- Coordinate with warehouse, scale house, and security for shipment scheduling.
- Work closely with sales/logistics teams regarding customer shipment schedules.
- Notify management of discrepancies, damaged product, or shipment delays.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA and site-specific safety procedures.
- Conduct pre-use inspections on forklifts and shipping equipment.
- Ensure proper PPE usage during loading and shipping activities.
- Comply with hazardous material regulations if applicable.
- Maintain clean and organized shipping/staging areas.
Equipment Operation
- Operate forklifts, front-end loaders, or overhead cranes (as required).
- Perform basic maintenance checks and report equipment issues.
- Assist with strapping/banding equipment operation and maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of SXEW copper production process.
- Understanding of inventory control procedures.
- Familiarity with shipping documentation and freight logistics.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to reconcile production and shipment reports.
- Basic computer proficiency (ERP systems, Excel, email).
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Strong communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor/industrial environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in mining or metal production operations.
- Experience working with copper cathodes.
- 1–3 years of warehouse, shipping, or mining operations experience preferred.
- ERP system experience (SAP, JDE, Oracle, etc.).
- Knowledge of DOT freight regulations.
Work Environment
- Industrial mining environment.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Regular interaction with heavy equipment and industrial machinery.
- May require shift work, overtime, or weekend coverage.
