Role Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Geologist-in-Training (GIT) to join our Geology Team at Gibraltar Mine. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent or experienced Geology graduate to gain hands-on experience Mine Geology at one of Canada’s largest open pit copper mines.
The successful candidate will assist with Grade control, pit wall mapping and diamond drilling programs, while supporting continuous improvement initiatives to promote mineral resource stewardship and operational excellence. This role provides the opportunity to work closely with senior professionals, develop technical competencies, and progress toward Professional Geologist registration.
Core Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously develop safety skills and habits to keep safe.
- Strong commitment to safety leadership.
- Work with and provide support to the Mine Engineering group which may include rotating roles.
- Mine Geology and Ore control:
- Complete daily Ore control field checks and clearly communicate detailed blend plan to mine and mill departments.
- Pit wall mapping
- Drone operation and data processing.
- Project Geology
- Support ongoing Grade control improvement initiatives.
- Support mine to mill projects and initiatives.
- Core logging, chip logging
Education & Experience
- Degree or similar education in Geology/Geological Engineering.
- 1+ years Open pit mine experience is preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Geological experience mapping and logging of porphyry or similar deposit types would be an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Mineplan, Leapfrog Geo and Wenco would be an asset.
