Job Overview:

Perform preventive maintenance functions on all vehicles in the fleet along with making repairs that are required to keep the fleet fully operational.  Participate in coordination of production employees with the vehicles they require to perform their duties, including:

  1. Troubleshoot, diagnose and complete repairs on all company vehicles.
  2. Perform preventive maintenance:
    1. Oil Changes
    2. Tire rotations / repairs / replacements
    3. Chassis lube
    4. Drive train service
    5. Body & glass repairs
    6. Identify driver caused maintenance issues
    7. Major repairs to be reviewed with leadership prior to initiation
  3. Maintain a neat, clean, and organized garage
  4. Pick up / deliver vehicles to and from service garages & field

 

This position is a critical component of keeping the fleet at a high service rate, controlling maintenance and service costs, and keeping the fleet looking clean and professional.  It is expected that there will be maximum effort put towards continuous improvement and that changes in processes and procedure that advance the department towards this effort will be brought to the attention of leadership so these changes can be evaluated and implemented.  Consistently demonstrate and model the core values of R.T. Duties and Responsibilities:

Garage

  • Coordinate all preventive maintenance (PM) activities
  • Ensure that all vehicles receive their PM within the allotted window of Mileage, Date, or Hours of Service
  • Fill out appropriate forms and participate in computer tracking of PM schedules
  • Notify drivers & operators of impending PM services in a timely fashion to minimize impact on production
  • Notify leadership when a vehicle is found to need more than regular PM service so accommodations can be made
  • Support morning process to keep vehicles in service
  • Coordinate schedules with department managers to proactively meet needs of each department
  • Triage broken vehicles to determine whether to make repairs or employ outside resources

Transportation

  • Arrange for transportation of broken vehicles that need to be moved to a service station or back to RTMC for repairs
  • Assist in delivering vehicles to field crews

General

  • Ensure that garage and surrounding areas are safe and that all team members operate their duties in a safe manner
  • Assure that inventories of consumables are kept current and adequate to meet the needs of the fleet
  • Keep garage and all inventory storage areas clean, organized and clear of debris
  • Maintain garage equipment to ensure no downtime due to equipment breakdowns
  • Perform addition tasks as required by business or directed by leadership

 Responsibilities:

  • Direction: Routine duties are performed with minimal to no supervision; standard practices or procedures allow progress at routine work; occasional work is checked while in progress; work is checked upon completion.
  • Safety: Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to VP of Internal Operations.
  • Teamwork: Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.  Develop and effective and positive work environment for all team members.

 

Job Qualfications:

Education:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED. Mechanic’s trade school specializing in engine, drive train, gas engine and diesel

 

Experience:  Two to Four years of experience necessary

 

Physical/Environmental Demands:

  • Working conditions:  Will be exposed to changing weather conditions, for instance; rain, snow, wind, cold, heat.
  • Work Environment:  Must be comfortable working in outdoor weather conditions, loud environment, wet or humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, possible inhalation of fumes or airborne particles, working in and around equipment that pose the possible risk of electric shock.

  • Work Schedule:  Standard work hours: 6:30AM to 3:30PM.  End time may vary depending on completion of daily duties or special projects.  Standard work week; Monday through Friday.  Some mandatory Saturday and/or Sunday work days may be possible.
  • Physical Requirements: 
    • Must be able to stand for at least ¾ of each work day
    • Capable of lifting 100 pounds
    • Can continuously lift 50 pounds or more multiple times per day
    • Capable of heavy physical activity, performing strenuous daily activities
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach / handle items, work with fingers and perceive attributes of objects and materials
