About the office

The Professional Experience Office is a national team that coordinates professional experience placements across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It manages placements in early childhood, primary and secondary educational settings in Australia and overseas, working closely with schools, mentor teachers and tertiary supervisors. The office operates in accordance with Professional Experience policies, supports assessment and moderation processes, gathers accreditation data, and strengthens the University’s metro, regional, rural and international partnerships.

About the role

The Professional Experience Officer provides administrative support for preservice teacher placements, building and maintaining relationships with schools and early childhood providers locally, nationally, and internationally. The role contributes to reporting, planning, and future PEX initiatives, and works across Fremantle and Sydney campuses, reporting to the Professional Experience Manager and collaborating closely with both Professional Experience Offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate placement processes for initial teacher education preservice teachers and act as the University-School/Centre liaison for all administrative matters.
  • Respond to general placement queries and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders, resolving issues collaboratively.
  • Provide administrative support to school committees, including documentation, correspondence, presentations, reports, and stakeholder liaison.
  • Support efficient day-to-day operations and ensure accurate record-keeping of preservice teacher placements.
  • Interpret and apply policies and procedures, prioritising work and using judgement to solve routine problems.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with preservice teachers, schools, and internal staff regarding placement processes.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to team members on University processes and systems.
  • Comply with University policies, procedures, and reasonable duties as directed by the line manager.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Hold a degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, enterprise systems, and databases such as SONIA.
  • Clear and accurate written communication, with attention to detail and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Sound judgement and initiative in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Student-focused approach in interactions with students, academics, and partners.
  • Experience in the education sector and familiarity with SONIA desirable.
