About the role

Reporting to the National Head of Personal and Professional Development, you will be responsible for the co-ordination of curriculum delivery on the Sydney campus and contributing to the ongoing development of the Personal and Professional Development Domain in the School of Medicine.

As a teaching scholar, you will work ensure the provision of a high-quality and contemporary teaching and learning, assessment and evaluation program for post-graduate medical students. You will have an interest in enhancing the student experience of learning, place high value upon health and wellbeing of medical students and doctors and display a commitment to fostering personal and professional competencies in future medical graduates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the ongoing delivery and development of the Personal and Professional Development curriculum in alignment with contemporary pedagogical and programmatic approaches.
  • Contribute to orientation sessions, curriculum delivery including teaching in small group tutorials, assessment and evaluation programs and maintenance of updated teaching materials, learning resources and related communications.
  • Co-ordinate face-to-face, online and hybrid teaching session delivery and contribute to the sourcing of expert speakers and session facilitators with support from academic and professional staff.
  • Work closely with a range of internal staff, external professionals, community members and contribute to staff recruitment, briefing, development, training and other related activities.
  • Display a scholarly approach to personal and professional development and health professions education work to assist with learning design and student outcomes across the MD program.
  • Role-model the qualities and attributes associated contemporary healthcare and key institutional objectives and a continued commitment to own personal and professional development.

Qualifications, skills & experience

Lecturer Level B

A level B Academic Staff Member is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution and to carry out activities to maintain and develop their scholarly and professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline. You will have qualifications and/or experience recognised by the institution as appropriate for the relevant discipline area. This position requires a doctoral or Masters qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing. In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard is had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or technical achievement.

  • Medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of a relevant professional body OR possession of a PhD OR a Masters level qualification in a relevant field with at least 5 years teaching experience in the Higher Education Sector.
  • Fellowship of a relevant professional body and/or significant progress towards and/or equivalent professional expertise in health professions education.
  • A Graduate certificate or higher in Health Professions Education and/or similar qualification is desirable.
  • Expertise in one or more streams of the Personal and Professional Development domain (see Position Description).
  • Creative problem-solving, critical thinking and demonstrated abilities in transformative and team-based leadership is highly desirable.

Senior Lecturer Level C

You are expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a department, school, faculty or other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. You will play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities. You will have advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant experience in the relevant discipline area. This position requires a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing. In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard will be had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or technical achievement. In addition, you will require a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.

  • Medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of a relevant professional body OR possession of a PhD OR a Masters level qualification in a relevant field with at least 5 years teaching experience in the Higher Education Sector.
  • Fellowship of a relevant professional body and/or significant progress towards and/or equivalent professional expertise in health professions education.
