About the role

You will have leadership of the Medical Research and Innovation Domain, including oversight of the research curriculum and assessment content across the MD program with Schools in Sydney, Fremantle and Broome. You will report to the National Head of Medical Education and Innovation and can be based on any of the campuses of the National School of Medicine. As a teaching scholar, the successful candidate will work with colleagues based across our 3 campuses as well as our clinical schools to ensure the provision of high-quality research training across the 4 years of our MD program. You will also work closely with the National Head of Medical Education and Innovation, Domain heads, Medical Research and Innovation domain academic and professional staff, as well as Curriculum, Assessment, Foundation and Clinical Years teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising on matters related to the delivery of the MRI domain curriculum.
  • Leading the team nationally including all academic staff, as well as supporting academics in managing and training the relevant skills of medical educators and tutors.
  • Working with the administrative staff to integrate learning objectives across the national MD program.
  • Working with the Curriculum, Assessment and medical education academics across the MD program in ensuring appropriate MRI learning objectives are suitably assessed and integrated with other domains where appropriate.
  • Working with the Assessment team and MRI Domain academics in the development and marking of assessments including standard setting.
  • Teaching for Year 1 and 2 MD Program students.
  • Overseeing the Year 3 and 4 MD capstone projects, including ensuring students link to and work with appropriate project supervisors.
  • Carrying out teaching duties.

Qualifications, skills & experience

Senior Lecturer (Level C)

A Level C Academic Employee is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a department, school, faculty or other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. An Academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities. A Level C Academic Employee will normally have advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant experience in the relevant discipline area. A position at this level will normally require a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing. In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard will be had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or technical achievement. In addition a position at this level will normally require a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.

  • Possession of a medical degree registrable with AHPRA and one of a Fellowship qualification in Medicine, Health or Medical Education OR a PhD, and more than five years teaching in the higher education sector.
  • Experience in curriculum design, delivery and/or assessment in medical education, preferably in the health context and in a tertiary setting.
  • Experience in conducting original research and thorough understanding of the foundational principles of research and methodologies applicable to a MD program.
  • Well-developed leadership, organisation and project management skills.
  • Experience in evidence–based research skills teaching and delivery.
  • Proficiency with technology and learning and teaching programs.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with a range of academic, clinical, administrative and/or technical staff in a complex environment

Associate Professor (Level D)

A Level D Academic Employee will normally have the same skill base as a Level C Academic Employee. In addition there is a requirement for academic excellence which may be evidenced by an outstanding contribution to teaching and/or research and/or the profession. A Level D Academic Employee is expected to make a significant contribution to all activities of the organisational unit or interdisciplinary area and play a significant role within their profession or discipline. An Academic Employee at this level may be appointed in recognition of distinction in their disciplinary area.

  • Possession of a medical degree registrable with AHPRA and one of a Fellowship qualification in Medicine, Health or Medical Education OR a PhD, and more than five years teaching in the higher education sector.
  • Demonstrated significant experience in curriculum design, delivery and/or assessment in medical education, preferably in the health context and in a tertiary setting.
  • Significant experience in conducting original research and thorough understanding of the foundational principles of research and methodologies applicable to a MD program.
  • Excellent leadership, organisation and project management skills.
  • Significant experience in evidence–based research skills teaching and delivery.
  • Advanced proficiency with technology and learning and teaching programs.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with a range of academic, clinical, administrative and/or technical staff in a complex environment.
