SALARY RANGE: The anticipated salary range for this role is $85,000 to $100,000 annually. This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographical location, and internal alignment.
SUMMARY
The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor will oversee and manage all shipping and receiving operations, including domestic and international shipments. This role involves coordinating carrier relationships, ensuring compliance with export control and customs regulations, and maintaining efficient processes for timely and cost-effective delivery of goods. The supervisor ensures compliance with government and regulatory requirements while leading the shipping and receiving team to support overall operational excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
- Develop and implement strategies to streamline and optimize shipping and receiving processes.
- Supervise daily shipping and receiving activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal procedures.
- Ensure adherence to export control regulations (ITAR/EAR) and customs requirements for international shipments.
- Prepare and review shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and export declarations.
- Collaborate with Procurement, Production, and Quality Control to support on-time delivery and vendor compliance.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the shipping and receiving team, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing training.
- Ensure all activities comply with government regulations, company policies, and safety/environmental requirements.
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems, inventory management software, and logistics technologies to enhance accuracy and efficiency in shipping/receiving operations.
- Manage relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure reliable transportation and regulatory compliance.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5–10 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or logistics management, with at least 3 years in a government contracting or regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and basic understanding of inventory management processes.
- In-depth understanding of export control regulations, including ITAR and EAR, as well as international shipping and customs compliance.
- Experience preparing and reviewing export/shipping documentation.
- Experience with dangerous goods regulations (IATA and DOT) and ability to provide training to direct reports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in logistics management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail while managing multiple priorities.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Export Specialist (CES), Certified International Trade Professional (CITP), or similar certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and international carriers.

This position may require access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
