BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

Planning Operations Lead - Shanbally, Ringaskiddy, Cork

The Planning Operations Lead will be reporting directly to a Global External Operations Leadership member, the Director of Supply Chain Operations, and will serve as an integral leader of the Supply Chain Operations team in Global External Operations.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The greater Supply Chain Operations department is responsible for the site production planning and scheduling, ready process, warehouse operations, operational purchasing, ERP recipe management, as well as oversight of receipt and shipping of all materials to and from our External sites.
 
Specifically, under the remit of the Planning Operations Lead will be:
 
  • Ready Process
  • Inventory control
  • Warehouse and Inventory Management
  • Continuous improvement
 
The Planning Operations Lead will manage Ready, Inventory Control, Continuous Improvement and Warehouse functions in Global External Operations to ensure reliable product supply to a global patient population. This role translates production plan into material inventory and production requirements to meet target inventory levels and maintain customer supply from External facilities.
The incumbent must also ensure that all consumables are purchased and available on time to support external operations. This will involve close collaboration with both internal stakeholders and external partners.

The Planning Operations Lead will be required to foster close working relationships with multiple departments at a local level, such as Operations, Scheduling, Quality, External sites, and Finance, as well as globally within the network. Global Procurement and Supply Chain, as well as other groups such as IT, are all key partners.
 
Main areas of responsibility:
 
  • Implement and maintain rigorous Ready processes within the Supply Chain Operations team that ensure continuous product supply to patients.
  • Develop and actively manage process metrics for Ready & Inventory that measure effectiveness towards achieving goals, provide visibility to improvement opportunities, and track the progress of improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in investigations and subsequent Root Cause Analysis, to resolve issues and provide permanent corrective actions.
  • Key support and leadership within Global External Operations for an upcoming ERP transformation in 2025.
  • Support the Supply Chain Operations department as the primary point of contact for Ready process and Inventory as well as partnering closely with the OPS, Quality, Regulatory, CMO’s, Finance, and Projects group.
  • Identify and understand the team's resource, system, and process requirements, considering the future needs of a rapidly changing and growing business (more products, different modalities).
  • Implement mechanisms to ensure the disciplined and effective use of ERP within Planning & Inventory and foster integration with other functional teams.
  • As a key leader in the Supply Chain Operations team, there is a need to represent the department and occasionally the site at critical meetings.
  • Coach, mentor and train colleagues on Supply Chain processes, use of operational excellence tools, and high-performance team behaviors.
  • Participate and support plant optimization that helps create a strong value proposition for future investment.
  • Strong focus on visibility boards for all metrics and status with a particular emphasis on Planning & Scheduling and S&OE (coordinating DS, DP, FG batch release activities to ensure material is available for Filling & Packaging schedules when required)
  • Support and lead improvement projects as directed which are aligned with CMO business objectives and priorities.
  • Support and/or lead teams in the development, implementation, and standardization of efficient physical and transactional processes.
  • Formulate proposals / business cases for improvement projects including deliverables, financial analysis, development of these ideas into meaningful chartered and prioritized projects.
 
Occasional travel when permitted (10%).
 
EDUCATION
  • Required Education: Bachelors in Life Science, Business, Operations Management, or Industrial Engineering required.
  • Preferred Education: APICS certification and/or supply chain education preferred but not required.
  • Other continuing education initiatives highly desirable (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, industry specific coursework).
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the biotech/pharma industry with experience in supply chain, procurement, and/or manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with a combination of Master Scheduling, Inventory Analysis and Management, ERP systems, and new product launches.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and partner with other functional groups to achieve business objectives required.
  • Skillful application of KPI’s and metrics to manage business processes and support strong team performance.
  • Excellent communication skills – Oral, written and formal presentation skills with senior management, middle management and line staff.
  • Proficient and comfortable working indirectly through others.

Preferred Experience:
  • Direct experience with planning and scheduling management
  • Strong understanding of ERP/MRP systems and processes (Knowledge of Oracle is preferred)
  • APICS (or equivalent) certification in CPIM or CSCP
