Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Vice President, Central & Western Ontario, the role will be responsible for and actively involved in the leadership and management of Ainsworth’s Mechanical Services team.

The Director, Mechanical Services maintains Ainsworth’s position as a leading services provider within the region through promoting the vision and culture of the firm and in executing the strategy and meeting business objectives. Responsibilities:

  • Manages all activities and functions of the Mechanical Services team on a continuing basis, assesses requirements, makes recommendations for change, and develops solutions to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Leads, manages, mentors and develops all Mechanical Services personnel which includes but not limited to estimators, project managers, and installation technicians
  • Builds, maintains and promotes a culture of excellence, professionalism, ethics, accountability, engagement and motivation within their assigned teams of staff.
  • Builds and shapes the future of the Ainsworth Mechanical Services team by embracing, and leading from, a shared vision of excellence in service delivery.
  • Develops a strategic framework and methodology to assess core competencies and capture existing institutional knowledge as well as explore and evaluate the external market, customers, competitors, product, distribution and supplier intelligence, including SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) and gaps.
  • Formulates business plans/metrics addressing these “white spaces” which may involve internal initiatives, external alliances, joint ventures and/or acquisitions.
  • Maintains up-to-date personal knowledge of technical developments as they pertain to the area of specialization, including applicable legislation, industry standards and procedures, regulations, and techniques.
  • Responsible for optimizing project performance including, project margin, staff utilization, and general administration costs;
  • Develop new business – quoting small to medium sized mechanical projects in addition to service business.
  • Collaborates with peers nationally and in other geographies to leverage technical expertise, ensure client satisfaction and implement best practices;
  • Identifies, supports, and promotes innovation and continuous process improvements within the Mechanical Services department and across the business. Ensures the usage and procurement and of up-to-date tools within the department.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree in related field such as Building, Civil, Construction, Mechanical or Electrical
  • 10+ years of construction experience within the Mechanical Services (Plumbing) in all phases of a program working closely with a variety of commercial customers
  • Excellent project management skills within the plumbing mechanical services and e
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of applicable building codes, by-laws and regulations including provincial and municipal accessibility, fire, health and safety standards
  • Thorough knowledge of importance of PMO and its governance structure
  • Leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop a shared vision to lead a team to excellence in a complex environment
  • Proficiency in using a variety of information technology tools and the ability to understand and adapt new tools to business operations
  • Ability to effectively convey information of a highly technical or complex nature to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to effectively communicate with executive management and board members
  • Ability to establish and build heathy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers and external stakeholders
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to gain consensus
  • Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills
  • Self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality and process improvement
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
