Position Summary:

Ainsworth is currently looking for a Senior Project Manager / Estimator to join their Sarnia team. The project manager will manage Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional projects in the HVAC, Sheet Metal, and Plumbing divisions. Leadership and accountability are the keys to a successful project. Along with their team, the Senior Project Manager will define the schedule; working to ensure that goals are met, and communication is maintained. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the day to day management of construction and maintenance projects and teams. He/she will promote safety, quality, and general overall project performance. 


  • Document management on projects such as an invitation to bid, plans, specifications, bid bond, addendum, shop drawings, warranty, a notice of award, contract documents, purchase orders, notice to proceed, change orders, work progress report, job costing reports, construction schedules, RFIs, and other legal documents/reports.
  • Assistance as needed in the tendering processes for HVAC, Sheet Metal, and Plumbing divisions. Check quantity takeoffs by estimators and trades for Divisional Work to facilitate unit pricing or checking of trade bids. Review of project specifications and drawings for upcoming projects and develop a winning strategy during tender. Distribute and maintain control of bid documents and attend the site visits. Stay current on estimating methods to oversee staff in preparing budgets. Use Company standard forms and methods to manage the letting and closing of trade bids including preparation of bid packages fully describing the Division of Work being tendered.
  • Develop successful relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, sub-contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Maintain client relationships and manage ongoing communication with the client. Track, record, and communicate project milestones regularly, and manage expectations in accordance with the scope of work.
  • Monitor Site Health and Safety with the Site Safety Officer for compliance with the project-specific H&S Plan as well as the Company’s H&S Policy. Flag issues and elevate them to the proper authority responsible as required to have the issues resolved.
  • Oversee material/equipment procurement and delivery to the site as per schedule.
  • Resolve conflicts and quality issues with equipment, materials, or installation during construction.
  • Manage the project & construction, delivery teams. Build and lead teams and collaborative efforts surrounding scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality. Provide ongoing performance feedback.
  • Effectively manage projects and follow company processes and procedures to ensure each project is delivered with quality and consistency.
  • Work as a team player in the office environment. Mentor Junior Project Managers and Coordinators.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the demands of the project and all other duties as required.



  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience as a Project Manager in the Mechanical Industry
  • Minimum completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management OR Engineering Technology. Professional Engineering designations, Gold Seal certification and/or CET are considered an asset.
  • Estimating experience and knowledge of techniques & cost control.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and the ability to analyze mechanical drawings/blueprints to provide innovative and constructive solutions.
  • Proven experience taking ownership and leading in the preparation of an estimate/proposal, including identifying risk and opportunities, and maintaining a winning strategy.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills including relationship building and people management. Understanding of decision-making authority and ability to influence decisions.
  • Planning, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail, prioritize own work, and direct report tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Ability to act with business integrity

Work Environment:

  • Construction and office environment, this role will require working outdoors and indoors.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Provide service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
