Senior Manager - Automotive Software Safety Assurance

Location: North America, Remote

What You’ll Do:

Wind River Systems is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with experience in Automotive Software Safety Assurance according to ISO-26262 standards and best practices.  The successful candidate will manage a team to implement and ensure compliance with automotive standards within product development.

 

In the past you’ve:

  • Managed teams implementing processes and tools for safety-critical software products
  • Launched software products compliant to ISO26262 (DO178c experience would be a bonus)
  • Developed, deployed process standards and audited work items according to ISO-26262 processes and at ASIL D.
  • Implemented and managed development of safety critical software developed according to ISO-26262 to ASIL D.
  • Participated in the full development lifecycle of ASIL B/D software products including managing customer DIAs, distributed development, SQA, requirements, architecture, safety analysis, development and verification. Understanding of the detailed differences between ASIL B and D.
  • Familiar with the differences between DO178C and ISO-26262 would be a bonus.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of functional safety engineers, including 1-1s, team meetings, task assignments, priorities, mentoring, team development.
  • Develop the process standards for ISO-26262 compliance.
  • Support engineering teams with guidance, governance, interpretation of standards at detailed level.
  • Participate in the development of the company safety culture.
  • Lead trainings on various aspects of requirements analysis, safety culture, safety process, software quality, safety analysis.
  • Work cross-functionally, and with partners to define the agile processes for future certification.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years as a people manager in a safety related software engineering development role
  • 8+ years experience in automotive safety certification processes
  • Experience with agile scrum, and continuous integration
  • Expert in ISO-26262 standard and best practice implementation
  • 6+ years experience with development of embedded software (hypervisors, RTOS, application development)
  • BSc / MSc degree (Computer Science, Computer/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent technical degree).
  • Experience with process (and tools) deployment in production software organization.

 

Qualification / Skills 

  • Experience with safety critical software design, ISO-26262 methods for decomposition, ASIL determination, SEooC, re-use, software and tool qualification, development and allocation of FS requirements in SWC including RTOS.
  • Experienced with tools used in embedded software development including compilers, linkers, build utilities (e.g. objdump, readelf), static analysis, MISRA, and unit test tools.
  • Understanding of core functionality and application of Wind River software products including RTOS and Hypervisor.
  • Proficient coding skills with C, C++, Python, Java, and shell scripting such as bash.

 

Assets 

  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration tools (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Build and regression test configuration experience with Jenkins pipeline operations

Compensation                
The annual base salary range for this role’s listed grade level is currently $164,000 to $215,000 plus a bonus for Colorado, New York, and New Jersey residents, and $189,000 to $250,000 plus a bonus for SF Bay Area, Greater Seattle, NYC, and Washington, DC, residents. Salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members. Employees in this role are also eligible for the following benefits in accordance with the terms of the Company's plans: health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, flex time off, eligibility to enroll in 401k, and 12 paid holidays.
