An Associate Geoscientist performs basic technical tasks including installing monitoring wells, collecting soil and groundwater samples, providing detailed lithologic descriptions during drilling or other such subsurface activities, gathering other data and information, analyzing, and organizing data for the preparation of accurate, clear, and relevant scientific reports. They are developing a working knowledge of the procedures necessary to execute a sound and efficient project using approved methods, procedures, and techniques under the guidance of more senior staff. The Associate Geoscientist performs calculations and recommendations based on field investigations, data research, and review within the established project schedules. An Associate Geoscientist develops an understanding of industry basics, effectively and willingly follows instructions, and applies guidance. They seek mentorship opportunities with more senior geologists.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Perform field assignments including field documentation and sampling tasks associated with assigned projects.  
  • Collect data as prescribed by the scope of work and present the data in a logical, coherent manner, including the preparation of written reports, tables, figures, and illustrations.
  • Under supervision, make appropriate judgments regarding field investigation procedures including selection of sampling sites, use of sampling equipment, and knowledge of sampling techniques.  Incorporate relevant standards and regulations into deliverables and produce draft deliverables for review. 
  • Written work is validated by PMs and higher-level technical staff. 
  • Lead basic field tasks (groundwater monitoring events, monitoring well Installation, basic oversight tasks), with EHS concurrence.  
  • Work in a lead capacity for multiple tasks, including data checks, data tables, geologic maps, cross sections (with supervision), and deliverables.  
  • Complete assigned tasks on schedule and within the budget to the satisfaction of the project management team.
  • Maintain auditable and orderly files, notebooks, and correspondence on all project aspects. 
  • Conduct all work in compliance with approved project specifications and standard operating procedures defined in the project work scope.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety in your own actions and actions of others. 
  • Can perform low risk EHS activities with minimal oversight and direction. Have a clear understanding regarding Stop Work Authority and personal accountability and responsibility for not performing any task/job for which they feel unqualified. Serve as safety leader providing basic safety training such as site orientation and review of Safety Planning Documents.  
  • Monitor the effort, timeliness, and quality of the work of subcontractors and documents and report all variations to the senior project leads.
  • Report project-related issues, including delays and irregularities, to the senior project leads.
  • Under the direction of a more senior geoscientist, coordinate laboratory analysis appropriate to the project data quality objectives.
  • Conduct literature searches to compile pertinent information. Critically evaluate and correlate the compiled literature with appropriate references in the technical document.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of recent work in the field for application on other projects.
  • Is aware of client needs and concerns and discusses them with senior project leads.
  • Respond to routine inquiries from internal and external customers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geoscience or related field with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Texas GIT is preferred.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn and conduct assigned activities in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated technical competence in areas of specialization.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and communicate effectively.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

 

Salary Range: $40,400 - $53,900 - $67,300
