Role

Splunk is looking for a hardworking, and committed Principal Product Manager to come and join the Data Platform PM team, spanning both Splunk Cloud and Splunk Enterprise on-prem offerings. You would be the product owner responsible for Splunk’s next generation search federation. In this role you will define the critical features and roadmap for high-performance indexing, search on petabyte scale data volumes and the app dev model.

You will use your understanding of the data platforms, analytics, big data, cloud technologies, scalability, and high availability to synthesize ideas that improve and evolve Splunk's Enterprise and Cloud offerings. Your GTM skills and cross-team collaboration skills will enable those improvements to deliver highly impactful customer and business outcomes.
 
You will merge attention to technical detail with an ability to understand and align to business imperatives while working hand-in-glove with cross-functional execution teams to drive customer insights and inputs directly into the development process. Ideally, you have some experience running customer advisory boards.

Responsibilities

As with any fast-growing company, day-to-day responsibilities will span the entire product management lifecycle and include deep interaction with customers, sales, and engineering.
  • Own the full lifecycle of the product/service experience, gathering requirements, driving execution, pricing, deploying and operating the service
  • Define and evolve the product roadmap for search federation across cloud data lakes and lake-houses
  • Engage with customers, develop insights into what is possible, and transform them into clear value propositions and results
  • Define product specs, user stories, mockups, acceptance criteria and drive execution in collaboration with engineering and QA
  • Interact and collaborate with Cloud SREs, SEs, and customer success teams, to deploy and operate Splunk Cloud platform services
  • Collaborate with product marketing and partner teams to support content creation, product positioning, pricing and drive Go-To-Market

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in product management
  • Experience as a Product Manager in building core platform technology for unstructured, structured, and semi-structured data processing and search
  • Technical background in data ingestion, search technologies, public cloud services, high availability, scalability, and performance
  • Deep understanding of data platform market (Big Data, Databases, Query Processing, Data Lakes), competition, and industry
  • Strong sense of product/service ownership and customer empathy to care deeply about customer problems and user experience
  • Collaborative team player, with strong communication skills, including the ability to translate sophisticated technical products and features into simple concepts and presentations

Desired Skills:

  • Experience building products involving large scale data management, Big Data analytics, search and cloud technologies
  • Strong bias for action, creative thinking, innovation, and product decision-making
  • Operate and think in terms of the business outcome, end-user experience, the underlying technology stack to drive those experiences and outcomes
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure and agile software development
  • Passion for solving results-oriented technical problems and building enterprise products with intuitive user experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g. EE, CS); MBA or similar degree highly preferred

Base Pay Range

SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area

Base Pay Range: $181,200.00 - 249,150.00 per year

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts

Base Pay Range: $163,080.00 - 224,235.00 per year

All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.

Base Pay Range: $144,960.00 - 199,320.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
