A little about us. Splunk is here to build a safer and more resilient digital world. We’re proud to say that we’re the key to enterprise resilience for more than 11,000 enterprise organizations that use our Unified Security and Observability Platform to keep their systems secure and reliable. We’re also proud of our award-winning culture and our regular appearance on those “Best Places to Work” lists.
If you end up joining us, we’ll only ask one thing: bring your whole, authentic self, what we call your million data points. So bring your work experience, problem-solving skills and talent, of course, but also bring your joy, your passion and all the things that make you, you. Because when you feel free to be you, it makes it a lot easier for us to be us.

Role

Splunk is looking for a hardworking, enthusiastic, and capable Product Manager to drive the future of search across Splunk deployments and third party cloud data stores. You would initially be responsible for Splunk’s distributed search processing across multiple Splunk deployments and Cloud data stores, which is an integral part of our core value to customers. In this role, you will define the critical features and roadmap for bringing high-scale, high-performance search to Splunk customers and app developers.
You will use your understanding of the data platforms, analytics, and big data ecosystems to synthesize ideas that improve Splunk's data platform offering. Your cross-team collaboration skills will enable those improvements to be conceptualized and delivered to drive meaningful and impactful business outcomes.
You will work in the Data Platform area at Splunk, so a real appreciation for the needs of developers is vital, and a work history that includes some time in engineering roles is likely a plus.
You will merge attention to technical detail with an ability to understand and align to business imperatives while working hand-in-glove with cross-functional execution teams to drive customer insights and inputs directly into the development process. Ideally, you have some experience running customer advisory boards.

Responsibilities

As with any fast-growing company, day-to-day responsibilities will span the entire product delivery pipeline and include deep interaction with customers, sales, and engineering.
  • Own the whole product experience for your area.
  • Engage with customers, develop insights into what is possible, and uncover unarticulated needs to ensure customer success.
  • Build product roadmaps based on customers' needs, including market and technology forces.
  • Define product specifications, user stories, mockups, and acceptance criteria independently and in collaboration with engineering.
  • Interact and collaborate with Support, NOC, and field teams to understand customer issues and drive business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, QA, SRE, and release teams to plan, drive and execute product release cycles.
  • Collaborate with product marketing to support the creation of content.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of proven success in product management.
  • Experience as a Product Manager in building core platform technology for unstructured, structured, and semi-structured data processing and search
  • Familiarity with cloud services, batch/stream data processing, distributed search, data storage formats, high availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Strong sense of product ownership & customer empathy to care deeply about customer problems and the user experience.
  • Analytical thinking skills and a data-informed approach to decision-making.
  • Collaborative, with strong communication skills, including the ability to translate sophisticated technical products and features into simple concepts and presentations.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience building data platform products with a focus on search processing, cloud storage, high availability, performance, and scalability.
  • Strong bias for action, creative thinking, innovation, and data-informed product decision-making.
  • Operate and think in terms of the business outcome, end-user experience, the underlying technology stack to drive those experiences and outcomes
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure and agile software development
  • Passion for understanding end-to-end business workflows and building enterprise products with intuitive user experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g. EE, CS); MBA or similar degree highly preferred
