Hungry, Humble, Honest, with Heart.

The Opportunity

The Software Developer (MTS2) position within the NCI Tools team is a core backend systems role dedicated to supercharging developer productivity and modernizing the build and test infrastructure for Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI). When applying for this job, you'll be joining a highly specialized team that acts as the bridge between Production, Security, Ops and Engineering teams. Let's match up our challenges with your skills and passion.

About the Team

The NCI Tools team (part of the broader R&D organization in Serbia) provides high-quality tooling for engineers while relentlessly removing technical debt and streamlining development processes. We are the build system SMEs and the architects behind many tools that power Nutanix. Our recent and ongoing initiatives include massive test framework parallelization, build / test containerization, migrating monolithic build systems to modern alternatives, enabling support for new CPU architectures, modernizing our language support (Python, C++, Go), hardening Third-party supply chain security, etc.

Your Role

  • Architect, design, and develop a family of software tools and build systems that 1,500+ Software Engineers will rely on in their daily work.

  • Modernize and scale enterprise-grade build systems to ensure fast, deterministic, and reliable software compilation across massive codebases.

  • Develop advanced system-level infrastructure, focusing on containerization, OS-level integrations, and distributed testing frameworks.

  • Contribute to cross-compilation efforts and platform enablement to support diverse hardware architectures.

  • Contribute to code on all levels of the stack, from low-level system development to web services.

  • Work closely with Senior Engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions that improve the overall Developer Experience (DevEx).

  • Partner closely with internal engineering teams as your primary customers, allowing you to focus deeply on building tools without the interruptions of customer-facing on-call rotations.

  • Contribute to team growth and culture by sharing knowledge and collaborating effectively.

What You Will Bring

  • Solid understanding of UNIX/Linux operating systems and containerization concepts (Docker).

  • Hands-on programming experience in Python, C/C++, and/or Bash.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • A passion for developer productivity, automation, and eliminating technical debt.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with advanced containerization concepts (namespaces, cgroups, syscall interception).

  • Experience with modern build systems and dependency management.

  • Development experience in operating systems, distributed systems management, testing frameworks, or Cloud technologies.

  • Familiarity with cross-compilation and diverse CPU architectures.

  • Knowledge of Go, Java, and/or JavaScript.

  • A proactive mindset with the ability to identify complex problems independently and propose or drive new technical initiatives.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid: This role operates in a hybrid capacity, blending the benefits of remote work with the advantages of in-person collaboration.
