Nutanix is seeking a Senior Manager of Commodity Management to lead our dynamic Supply Base team. In this high-impact role, you will define and drive technology roadmaps and global commodity strategies for Server and Storage Product components, including CPU, memory, SSD, HDD, and NIC technologies. Managing a $500M–$1B expenditure portfolio, you will partner closely with Hardware Engineering, Product Management, and Operations to optimize product costs through strategic sourcing, value engineering, and comprehensive risk mitigation. About the Team 

Join our growing Supply Base team! You will report to the Senior Director leading Life Cycle Management and Supply Base Management. The work setup for this role is to lead our Commodity Management Team. The role does involve travel, 2x per year to travel internationally 

Your Role 

This position is responsible for Server – Storage Product commodities Detailed understanding of CPU, memory, SSD, HDD, NIC, and server platforms (L6) components and technology is required. You will perform activities to significantly influence the Product Management, HW Eng, Product Operations, Quality, and other key peer groups alignment with commodity strategies based on subject matter expertise and knowledge of the industry.   

  

What You Will Bring 

  • Deep technical knowledge of server technology is required to influence HW eng and Product Management. 

  • Define and drive technology roadmaps for key components is fundamental.  

  • Understanding the market and how to navigate NX to provide the best solutions possible 

  • Own the Product Cost.  Cost reduction, avoidance, VE, etc. 

  • Independently initiate and drive commodity strategies in close collaboration with HW eng, Product Management, Finance, and Operations 

  • Manage execution / scoring / recommendations on RFIs and RFQs to select the appropriate supplier that best meets the technology requirements / cost / volume / quality / lead-time / supply chain flexibility and robustness targets defined by SBM, PM, and HW Eng to ensure alignment of strategic priorities Focus is on higher risk or higher impact suppliers.  Ensure RFQ awards are consistent with overall group strategy 

  • Manage overall process to maintain HW technology roadmap alignment with the supply base Drive risk mitigation to completion 

  • Foresee and develop long-range mitigation strategies for the commodity space 

  • Drive commodity space suppliers to compliance with Nutanix standards and to meet metrics for Value Engineering proposals Provide subject matter expertise on Value Engineering solutions to product changes during product development execution 

  • Define and negotiate forward-looking cost strategies with selected suppliers 

  • Monitor supplier NPI execution for post-mortems 

  • Establish relationships with senior BU executives and key decision-makers 

  • Foresee and mitigate supply chain capacity and/or sub- component risk points 

  • Manage strategic relationships with key suppliers and service providers including contract negotiations 

  

Requirements 

  • Previous experience in commodity management of $500M-$1B of company’s expenditures.   

  • Successfully manage a broad base commodity group 

  • Supply Base Engineering or technical experience is a plus 

  • Geopolitical & Risk Management: Proven track record of managing cross-border supply chain risks, localization, and dual-sourcing strategies 

  • Develops strategies to support overall corporate direction.  Implement solutions and process across many cross-functional groups 

  • Extensive experience in the following areas 

  • CPU / Memory / SSD / HDD technology  

  • Cost Reduction targets are met/exceeded 

  • NPI COGS target met 

  • NPI shortage escalations 

  • VE, cost avoidance, multi-sourcing per strategy 

  • Commodity strategy sourcing execution 

  

Education and experience 

  • Requires BA/BS or equivalent plus 10+ years manufacturing experience with 6+ years management.  Technical or MS degree preferred.   Expert in server/storage architecture.  Significant and diverse management experience preferred Engineering experience specific to the commodity type. 

  

Work Arrangement 

This role is remote for zones 2-4. 

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $156,000 – 290,000. 

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. 

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
